Plus Hunt doesn't have offensive instincts, so it's just really Bread and god awful Strome out there trying to generate chances. That line needs a complete shakeup and will get one after we decide not to re-sign Strome.

Gallant keeps putting Hunt there for the purpose of forecheck pressure. If Hunt is not with them, they don't even sniff o-zone time. Neither of them play the boards well for puck retrievals. It's too bad that Hunt provides almost no offense with them anymore. He actually did provide some offense when he first joined them. Hunt does his best work on triangle plays in the low circles.

Really concerned about Panarin and Strome being effective in the playoffs. Panarin's patented move where he stops at the blueline and looks for a cross-ice pass is easy to defend and can spring the opposition the other way. He basically just takes himself out of the play when he does that. It's maddening.
Such a low effort play too. His game has really turned into stand around and look for cross ice passes for $11.6m per.

They'll take care of it before 3/21.
or not. Too many heavy hitters in the East this year. Keep the assets, let the kids develop and make deadline moves when we are really ready to go for the Cup. Which we are not right now. I do not want to lose Jones, Lundqvist, Kratsov, Cuylle or Chytil to try and upgrade this season. We will regret it.

Their recent track record in the playoffs says otherwise. Jarry will get lit up by a team with a legitimate offense.

Jarry has been good all year and last year has nothing to do with this one (look at our position vs last).

You think we have a better chance against Carolina than Pitt? I don't think so. I agree Tampa may actually be a better matchup.

I think you can luck out against Carolina, not against Pitt. Bounces don't go your way against those guys if it comes down to that.

No question though Carolina is better than Pitt but it's the playoffs, different beast.

How many scoring chances did they develop this game? One or two early and then nada. Just a bad line.

In the past, Panarin has been great in the playoffs and despite all the bitching his stats are about his usual.

This is not a binary of “they’re not perfect so it’s not worth it to upgrade” it’s all about cost and stuff.

You sit around and wait to be ready and you’ll miss your chance. In this league you never know what will happen. Shesterkin could tear his ACL next year and now we’re a lottery team. You don’t throw away a shot just bc the team isn’t perfect.

The play for Drury is to make shrewd moves around the edges. Improve the team without selling the farm. Considering we just need to upgrade on McKegg and Gauthier pretty much means it can be done. Honestly Drury not making any moves would be a dereliction of duty on my opinion. Your team is a top 6-8 team in the league and you have an insane amount of assets and cap space. Standing pat makes zero sense. You have to show faith in your team and give them a shot.

Color me shocked. Nationally televised game in Shitsburgh, Crosby has a menstrual cramp, which leads to winning the game. Same shit for the last 15+ years. But hey, at least they called 1 of the 7 cross checks in a row on Hunt.
Sadly predictable. It's gonna hurt alot more if we play them in May.

You are giving Pitt way too much credit. Carolina is a much better team.

Predictable overreaction.

They played a good, defensive game on the road against a good team. Playoff like tightness. A lot of good things.

Obvious they could use more scoring. Bread and Strome are off right now. Wonder if Stromes contract is effecting his game a little.

Pens with a very good PK was a difference maker. I’d be worried about that in a potential first round matchup. They don’t allow Fox or anyone time to operate.

Bummer there was so much 4 on 4 time because Laf didn’t get a lot of minutes in the second. Tough to get into a flow.

Jones was much better this game, but still prone to a bad puck play or two. He’ll learn. Otherwise some real nice skating and impressive closes and reads on top players including Crosby.

Not sure what the ref saw on Lindgrens penalty. Maybe the other angle showed more.

Man, do I hate Malkin. Almost forgot he existed for a while there.

Igor fantastic once again. At this point he has to be in favorite for the Vezina. He’s had a lot of work. Maybe give Georgey a go tomorrow night. (Selfishly I want this to happen because I have tickets on Weds against the Blues)

Halfway through the game I was wishing Kakko was in the lineup for this one. Tight game that’s right up his alley and I think he’s had success against the Pens. He’s missing some key development time.

First reg loss in the last 7? With the bottom six they have right now? Move on.

That's a reasonable thought. Do you see us a contender, I mean a real contender? I know if you make the dance you have a shot. But, we are going to be real big dogs going into the playoffs because we do not have the developed depth and experience needed to win a few rounds. I do not want to lose anyone with a high ceiling which all of those players still have.

Big Hunt fan? He's fine but should never see time that is needed to score.

I just don't think Hunt is a factor in how things turn out with Panarin and Strome. The two of them are in a codependency.
