I 100% agree with you. Jets will be mired in no-man's land, trying to field a team that is competitive enough to bring fans to the arena but not competitive enough to make any serious playoff or cup run. Its an attitude where you are just happy to have an NHL team but have not intention on winning a cup.

The Jets have been fortunate to be very good at drafting over the years. That has certainly kept them in the running.

The Jets were first in the Western conference in January before an epic collapse with late recovery to make the playoffs.

It had the skill to be a top dog but… I don’t know. I just wouldn’t characterize them as a bubble team in terms of talent. It should be interesting to see what they do with a different mix (but less talent).

I believe he is a RFA and needs a new contract doesn't he? Maybe Vilardi isn't willing to sign an extension with the Jets? I am just saying my opinion this isn't some jab at the Jets or anything but the deal should have gone through by now after so much smoke a few hours ago.
The hold-up is more likely to be negotiation of Dubois' extension.

Oh? Awesome! To where and what are they paying to do it .

He's just more Neal Pionk. If Demelo isn't re-signing they need a righty version of Samberg.

Where did DeMelo not re-signing come from?

DeMelo or no DeMelo we need 2 righty versions of Samberg. Or 1 Samberg and 1 Kovacevic. Oh wait, we had a Kovacevic and threw him away. :naughty:

I'd take Pinelle over Turcotte

In a heartbeat.

Jets fans, settle a debate. Did PLD actually want to go to Winnipeg? I remember it as no or an indifference at best

In a heartbeat.
We, the Montreal Canadiens have completed a trade with the Winnipeg Jets.

It's just Kovacevic for a 3rd, or 4th guys chill.

🤣

What does an Italian say when he goes along with his teammates when traded?

Iafallo you to a new team.

No worries, I know where the door is !

I think Dubois is far too risky to invest this much into. He's now demanded trades 3 times in his short career. Twice in the NHL, and once in juniors.

I’m not so worried about that piece. There’s no easier place to play in the NHL than in LA.

Your Mind
This is the part that stuns me the most. Why aren't the Jets planning a rebuild and triggering it with the PLD trade?? Why not demand Byfield and other young assets? I like Vilardi, don't get me wrong, but i think the Jets should be rebuilding given the pending exodus of players that want out.
If you asked most jets fans. I bet the consensus is the same thing.
I know that’s how I feel. Time to restart.

He went to WPG to move closer to his family/father (who was/is an assistant coach for the AHL team)

While it was true his father did play a role as part of the AHL coaching staff, it's unknown whether he actually wanted to come to Winnipeg or not.

When things soured in Columbus, PLD asked for a trade, and the CBJ GM decided our trade offer was the best offer (rightly or wrongly), and was traded here.

During the first season, there was no indications that he didn't want to be here, so if he hated it here, it was kept out of the media.

During last year's draft, things slipped to the media that he would really like to play in Montreal, and might have been why he was at the draft, as it was speculated he would be traded to the Habs. Ultimately this didn't happen (lots of speculation why).

PLD's agent tried to smooth over the controversy, but I personally never really bought it.

So there is nothing official on whether he never wanted to be here. So nothing that can probably settle any debates.

This is pure speculation on my part, so take anything now with a grain of salt: I suspected that he really wanted to get traded closer to home. I think his grandmother, whom he was close to, lived in an assisted living facility, and during the pandemic, it might have made him desire to be someplace close to home.
