I still think it's going to go through but barely. I also think that GI, the NHL and the City of Glendale are working pretty much all day and night on this to come to a resolution to keep them here.

I named my son after Jeremy Roenick when he was sent here from the 'Hawks. Found out my wife was pregnant with my second son the very night the Blues beat the 'Yotes in the first round of the playoffs coming back from a 3-1 series deficit. The past 15 years of my life's milestones can be associated with Coyotes games and outings. I have both of my sons so interested in hockey, I can't imagine life without it. I know this has nothing to do with the Business of Hockey, more like the passion for hockey.

I think I speak for everyone on both sides, I certainly hope this ends next week. Somehow I don't think so... :shakehead

I'm going to check out of this for a while. After my trip to WestGate today, I realized I'm a little too emotionally involved in this whole thing.

When the booster clubs did their speech it was basically a flake cause it gave a false sense of hope. Hockey won't die in Arizona for kids that have the passion for the sport, yes the coyotes will probably leave but i don't think its the end of hockey. Glendale may end up getting an AHL franchise down the road.

In my honest opinion, the booster clubs did more harm then good.

Geno Reda -
What about the skeptic who says this is yet another example of somebody crying wolf and just another way to negotiate there way back into Phoenix for more dollars there.

I'm a skeptic.

I still think the NHL has a plan B. They'll help Glendale finance 100 million to give to Hullsizer.

Mod note: There should be NO discussion of relocation in the Phoenix until and if it comes to pass. (There are other threads where discussion of the "Jetsmeter" is acceptable.)

if it comes to pass, the NHL will shortlist Glendale for an expansion team and we'll see them and Quebec in the league within a decade.

I'm going to check out of this for a while. After my trip to WestGate today, I realized I'm a little too emotionally involved in this whole thing.

would you prefer to see the jets/yotes franchise flourish or continue to be in a miserable state? there's a point where a true yotes fan should realize it's best to let them go to where they will get the appreciation they deserve. emotions aren't logical as you said.

I still think it's going to go through but barely. I also think that GI, the NHL and the City of Glendale are working pretty much all day and night on this to come to a resolution to keep them here.

I think it's past that. IMO, the NHL has told the city what it needs to make the market successful under the current poisoned situation. This base is so slanted that Glendale can't actually meet it without getting sued by GWI. The league isn't obligated to negotiate any further, and contrary to what many think or believe, the league won't force the team to stay in a situation where failure is inevitable. If it's not getting what it needs to survive there now, in the post-Moyes' attempted abortion setting, it will pull stakes. The power to do this was won in bankruptcy and they fully intend to use it to its maximum potential.

From the league's standpoint, the negotiating is done. In fact, they are more likely to demand MORE concessions than they are to compromise on what they've already asked for.

The league hasn't really been an active participant since they found the owner willing to front their demands. It's all about the city and the watchdog.

GWI must tread very carefully lest they find themselves on the wrong end of accusations of costing the city a lot of money and jobs. Glendale currently has no winning outcomes left, just bad and worse options. The league? Already has everything they need; they won this when Baum handed them the keys. [Mod: deleted ]. This has been drawn out probably far longer than the league would have liked, but virtually every outcome in it has worked in their favor.

Absolutely. Bettman & the NHL have totally finessed this situation from the get-go. :thumbu:

It has been a very, very impressive display. From the bankruptcy filing (the only thing the league had no legal ability to prevent) until now, the league has managed to give its constitution ironclad legal support, fortified its right to choose its own members, established favorable precedent for any owner foolish enough to try bankruptcy again, taken total control of one of its franchises including all negotiating power on its behalf, removed a terrible lease, given itself a backup plan that guarantees it gets back its investment regardless of outcome, and established a no-lose situation (for the league) with the team whether it leaves or stays.

It has been sheer genius, if people look at it objectively.

But, of course, because, well, *Canadian sports media*, somehow the fact the team wasn't given to Balsillie or moved to Canada immediately means it has been a "fiasco".
