Sad that we live in an era where people bash players after every bad game but can’t congratulate them after a good one. We weren’t like this 15 years ago.

Good couple of assists.

Still think he's being misused. He's a solid defensive player. He should be used in a defensive role. He's a great third line guy and that's where he should be used.

A couple of good assists, hopefully this gives him some confidence:

I actually think he's been pretty good since the coaching change. At least not costing us games like before.

I still think we treat him as an self rental and just hope he plays more games like tonight.

I’m just talking about these 2 passes. Zidane is the most elegant athlete ever. Danced on the pitch.
I would say Federer is the most elegant athlete ever (and also Ali). I was always thinking if Zidane was an hockey player he would have been a superstar. Very intelligent on the ice, very solid and very strong between the eyes. He was built strong and very endurant.

Danault has been a completely different player since the whole COVID thing started. He did not want to go to the bubble, and has been bad since. It got to his head big time.

Canadiens' Phillip Danault against leaving family to finish season - Sportsnet.ca

He did good tonight, and I hope he can clear his mind as confinement measures get eased up in the upcoming weeks/months.

He's ABSOLUTELY not worth 30M$/5 years, but I'd love to keep him as a #3/#2b C

Ummm, I've been watching this game since the mid-late 70's and yes it was...Christ, I still remember people ragging on Bossy all the time for "not being involved enough physically"...

I second this hard. As a tennis player, watching him is akin to watching water flow.

That was the FIRST time all season long I saw the phil danault from when I actually liked him and thought was a decent player (still considered him a top6 C placeholder, but not a NON-NHLer like some wouldnt stop pushing lol), and I'm not even talking about the 2 nice apples, there was energy, speed, actual EFFORT
Wheres that been all year dude?? Can it continue? For the sake of the team I hope so, and for the sake of his wallet he CERTAINLY hopes so

Let's see.

Proof that we were right, look he played well and his line were lights out all game. He was the reason. I think it was a confidence issue and hopefully he'll continue.
Let’s hope so. But passing a puck on the tape and dealing with pressure sounds like a pre-requisite to be a pro, not a nice-to-have that happens every 10-20 games.

edit - played a good game last night.

Danault may not have been an elite offensive C the last two years but, he was a consistent factor during the games because of his defensive play when his offense was AWOL.

Still, he contributed, whatever some like to think, to tatar getting career results and Gallagher scoring 30 or being on a 30-goal pace.

Hopefully, he can play more consistant hockey to end the season.

He IS used in a defensive role.

Absolutely no PP time, our most used PK forward.

Plays top opposition 5v5, more d-zone starts.

Does a shutdown line has to be inept offensively to be considered good defensively?

We don’t have a classic 1-2-3 lines. We have 3 good lines that we use differently based on skill set. Danault’s line sometimes play (slightly) more because of its shutdown role.

As a line they are 9-3, 5v5. Best in the league in xGF%. That’s freakin good considering opposition I wish people would acknowledge that.

I think he’s a solid player. But I think some of that ice has to sart going to KK.

I think if we had a normal amount of PP and less PK, TOI would be closer between the 2.

5v5 I’m too lazy to check but they are not that far.

He had a good game but let's not lie to ourselves. Both passes, while amazing, were blind passes. It's not an indicator of what's to come offensively from Phil.

He is a defensive player and should be utilized, and paid, as one.
