Yet Matthews, etc still kill the Habs....so what's the overall benefit of that?

I mean ya he does lol but I think as a poster previously mentioned, AM hasn't scored a 5 on 5 goal against the PD line or something along those lines ( I didn't check the stats), he has killed us on special teams. I don't like PD's minutes when we play teams like Ottawa but I do not mind one bit having him out there against Matthews in playoffs.

he's gotta start contributing though or he goes from two way forward to explicitly defensive centre and his value drops tremendously (already has as of now)

Phil the buzz kill. At least he knew he wasn’t worth the contract they offered and turned it down. Thanks Phil.

This team is not rebuilding, and it's not happening sometimes to be honest... it's all the time!

You guys just underestimate Phil the thril!

This season he was on the ice for 7 GA 50n5

KK at 9 and Suzuki at 11

And he's doing the dirty job for god sake!

You can have your dreamy discussion with others but at the end of the day....

No he was not

Neither is Danault...

Hell...neither is...well

Anyone.
I feel more confortable with Danault having his confidence down than KK or Suzuki because Danault doesn't figure in the great sheme of a winning team in 2-3 years from now. Danault did well in the previous years. He doesn't seem to be slower or injured. He might have lost his confidence but he can find his game again before it's too late, I hope.

I understand your frustation but to be realistic it doesn't work like this in real life.
There's a difference between what you wish that happen and what the reality is or will be.
Now I realise that in all the moves MB did last summer he should have traded Danault for a better C. Easy to say it now. Danault hasn't been great last PO but not a disaster either. How could MB predict the falling of Danault offensively?
I don't think he should have traded Danault last offseason, I was perfectly fine with the Habs riding out the last year if Danault's contract.

This was assuming of course that it's a playoff team.

Otherwise you obviously move him at the deadline.

But on the other side, Danault isn't bad defensivly. Even if he is playing under his own standards, I can see other teams have an hard time playing against him.
When you say it's not the role of a single player to "beat" another one I can agree. But then we have to take a look at Byron, Armia, Suzuki, Tatar, Danault, Chariot, Weber, Petry, Edmunston, Kulak, Mete, etc. When the D struggles so much time in their own zone, the centers and wingers have to help them and the puck barelly exit the Habs zone and all they can do after their shift is to change line. This is a snowball problem but I see some real improvement with the new coaching staff. I hope they can apply a new system not too late.
He hasn't been as reliable defensively as he has been in the past and for me, that's more problematic then him having 0 goals.

He looks to me like a player who went into the season with the wrong mindframe.

Because of the contract AND his ill-thought comments after the playoffs...he put pressure on himself to try to prove he is this teams best center.

It's taken him out if the comfort zone of what makes him a very valuable player.

That's just MY theory and not to be taken as anything but.

However, it's just obvious from what I see in the ice.

Danault typically never cheats...but this year...

Yikes

Either way, I hope he finds his game again and soon because the way the Habs value him, they need him playing much better.

I bolded the most important part of your post .

5 on 5..

That implies there are 5 other players on the ice with him.

To attribute that entire stat to HIM individually is disingenuous.

Additionally, what does that stat reflect in the overall value of the team?

Are they any better for him having been on the ice for just 7 GA at ES?

You're magnifying a stat that is near pointless without context/interpretation.

Sorry...for me, for the amount of icetime he plays and for the money he thinks he's worse.

I need to see more goals/assists which = wins.

It's like a stat I saw that has Carey Price sv% at even strength at .920 or something.

Who cares...

And in spite of all of this ..

What's the Habs record vs the Leafs this year?

I couldn't careless if Danault's confidence is down...

He's not a player who needs confidence to play "his" game.

Suzuki or Kotkaniemi...that's a different story

You keep talking about GA but its wrong lmao
You have no idea what you're talking about, every time you get challenged you got nothing to bring back....

Here are stats from this year where Danault was brutal and all that line was atrocious:

So you agree with me on that point of young players who might lose their confidence and to look further than this year.

Here we go, for the money he worse... I mean you're just biased af ....

Why don't you judge him for what he's making today?

It's part of the process...challenges, adversity, rising above it.

It's part of becoming an NHL player.

All we're doing is delaying the process.

Sorry...it's part of the story here. Whether you agree or not.

I value Danault alot...wish there was a way this team could keep him moving forward, but THEY'VE created the market that he's currently seeking.

For what he's making today though...that's great, and that's why I hope the Habs can keep hi this year, go on a deep run and see where the chips fall in the offseason as it relates to potentially re-signing him.

@Belial

Im not typing this out again, long story short, I told you Danault would regress and is an offensive black hole that got lucky.

Once again, Im right.
He got lucky by having one bad season despite having a couple good ones? It's more probable that he is unlucky in this half of a season rather than him being lucky for multiple seasons in a row.

Danault On-ice 5v5 is 12-7

Even strength (13-11) is a skewed stat nowadays because of 3v3. Danault shouldn’t play a minute in OT, doesn’t have the appropriate skill set.

6-3 he was referencing is the on-ice 5v5 of Tatar-Danault-Gallagher as a line.

5v5 :

Danault +5 (playing top lines)
Suz +4
KK +5

The recipe of “Danault eating minutes against top lines” and Suz/KK’s line dominating other lines worked, in aggregate this year.

Danault is not to blame for Weber/Chiarot being the most penalized Dmen and Pricer allowing soft goals. These are the real culprits

With a normal production he has like 2-3 goals at this point in the season. It’s not the game changer
