Maybe he's sulking because he didn't get the contract he wanted
Why would he sulk? He's literally playing for his next paycheck for god sake!

If I'm Bergevin I would try and send him a lowball right now maybe he jumps on it as I definitely think he's far from done or something like that, he just turned 28 years old, he's in his prime...

I don't think Danault is done either, but that 5 million+ he wants will never happen with us. Pageau was an appropriate comparable at first, but not anymore. As good as Danault is usually defensively, scoring goals is the most valuable thing in hockey and Pageau has 19 goals in 51 games as an Islander in what should be a similar role while Danault has 14 goals in his last 102 games. 5 less goals in double the amount of games... Danaults superior playmaking and defensive ability doesn't compensate for that and more the way he supposedly believes it does.

That's great, but at 5+ million, you need goals more goals than 14 in 102 games playing that much. Which good centers are making that money with similar goal production? Even if you find them, tell yourself who's the better playmaker between them and Danault.

The way Danault plays he will never score, to be honest.

He's always grinding pucks in the corners to try and set up his linemates or keep the play alive so that his linemates can score or he'll always try to pass because he knows he has two goalscorers on his wings...

Gallagher never tries to set up someone, he's always shooting the puck to the net from any angle available and Tatar is another guy that is score-first mentality...

I mean, If Danault could get in front of the net and someone would feed him a great pass I'm pretty sure he could get some goals...

Exactly, and you don't give that kind of contract for someone that will never score. I'm more than happy to have him back at 3.5 million in a defensive/checking role with appropriate ice time.

But he's not scoring because of the way he's being used...

If you watch the games It's always him who brings the puck in the offensive zone while Tatar and Gally are waiting for a pass/converging to the net and stuff.

If Gallagher could pass the puck while Danault was crashing the net...

Unless you put up 55 assists a season. Then you can score less than 10 a year and no one cares. But phil is not getting 55 assists a year.

I hope Tatar, Danault, Armia and Byron are on their way out

Tatar could be replaced by Caufield
Armia by Ylonen

It's been a while since a prospect has come in to replace a current roster player... that's awesome for the team, that's awesome for the CAP.

We will have enough money to sign all our RFAs and a good UFA.

Tatar-Danault-Gallagher have better advanced stats then last 2 years, where they had very good 5v5 GF/60 as a line. Highest xGF% in the league (70% which is an awesome number - and remember, this stats usually takes into account the shooter, shooting angles, shooting location...

Danault is +5 despite the strong opposition, dzone starts and yes, the scoring slump.

Danault gets all the hate....but he is not responsible for the lack of power play scoring, the power play time share deficit (43% of pp time share for the Habs, last in the league) and Price sub-par play, which are the true reasons of all the losses.

Stick to Tatar-Danault-Gallagher and results will come on the goal scoring side.

I hope Danault signs at a lower salary on the lower production, he would be an awesome signing at around 4.5

I wonder if Danault still sees himself as a top 6 player?

Why not? 44th since 2018 at 5v5 points per 60, top 30 amongst centres. Same level as Aho, Oreilly...I wouldn’t negotiate based on the last 10 games if I were him.

Who in the Blue Hell started the unfounded rumor that Dan-NoGoal is an underappreciated playmaker??...he's a defensive #3C, that's what he is, what he has always been, and it seems all he ever will be and there's nothing wrong with that, as long as his deployment matches with his skillset...the days of having to rely on him offensively because we have no other option are over and there's nothing wrong with that either; it's time for the team and Phil himself to come to Jebus and roll with it...

How do you explain his first liner level of production at 5v5 since 2018?

Didn't know first liners where 40 point getters. Certainly isn't the case on good teams. McDavid has 40 points in 24 games. 24 takes most of the season to hit 40 points. If you aren't creative enough for the powerplay you shouldn't be on the first line.

He has 8 assists. He’s clearly setting no one up either
He’s a 3rd line Centre. Let him walk. Give KK his minutes. It’s the only way to know if he will bust or not
And don’t say KK doesn’t deserve more minutes.
Danault has done f*** all in his last 50 games to deserve 18-20 mins a game.
only in Montreal

Do not let him walk. Trade his ass. Seriously, like now! We should have traded him last season...

« Lines » refer to 5v5 not PP. Why use PP abilities to determine your 5v5 lines, what logic is that???

He’s around 45th 5v5 points per 60 since 2018. There 93 first line players and 186 top 6 players in the league....do the math bud. Around 45 even strength points is definitely top 6 production.

He’s trash on the PP. Ok. Doesn’t mean he’s a third liner.

Hmmm...the irony.

Where's the irony exactly?

He leads the team in primary assists 5on5 and only Drouin has more total assists than him...

LeT HiM WaLk...

I am baffled how people are defending Danault at this point. I could understand if you had a paycheck at stake but wowzers. The guy has been flat out bad this year. All the backwords looking only weakens your case. My only hope is bergie doesn't offer him anything and instead trades him if we are out of a playoff spot. Somehow I could see Danault still getting 5 million for 4 years and everyone "saves face". Not in the habs interest unless 24 takes 4 million or less and only plays 14 minutes a game. Otherwise we wasted another 3rd overall to reach for a center for no reason. KK will have his development screwed up and people will claim the same garbage as chuck, he needs to earn it, he has had every opportunity, he has no tool, bad skater, no vision and on and on and on.

All the focus is on his zero goals but his overall game and compete level has increased lately. Still not as good as last couple of years but if you watch objectively, he is better lately.

Like it or not, he's still an important cog in the overall success of this team going forward.
