In a vacuum it's fine. It's exactly what teams should be doing to get over the hump. But in the Phillies' scope, WHYYYYY are we not trading Caba for a hitter.

Someone please hold me

Luzardo and then Painter when Luzardo gets hurt again
Ranger

feels like 2011.
Is Suarez bat bait? I vote a very light no, because of Luzardo's injury history. But you can't help but think

Buy low on Luis Robert Jr before someone else does.
No

Trade Ranger for a hitter now. His arm might be cooked anyway.
Ranger's arm isn't the issue, it was his back last year. Try doing anything with a sore back, let alone pitching. I'd bet he's a pretty safe bounce back candidate this season.

I don't think his first half of the season is his norm btw. I think his baseline is an effective if not all star caliber pitcher

Yeah there's a chance going into his walk year. Or they could use him in the first half and if/when Painter is ready, Ranger becomes a trade chip at the deadline if he performs.

Yes, they can have him
MVP runner up season incoming.

Not sure how to feel. On the surface it’s fine; a win now type of move and it gives us one of the strongest rotations in baseball. I wouldn’t be against trading Ranger for a hitter depending on who the hitter is.

To go against the grain and be a cup half full guy, the bottom half of the lineup was like historically bad. It would be hard to match that collective of ineptitude again. Still, I’d want a shakeup in the bottom half of the lineup

You will rue this day.

Its the same lineup. Its gonna be historically ineffective once again.

Phillies were 5th in scoring last year.
They've added a good defensive OF who can hit RH pitching when healthy.
They've got some hitting prospects in AAA to start the season, Crawford, Kemp, Rincones.

Caba is supposedly an elite defender at SS, and has a really good batting eye, question is how much strength can he add? Right now he has zero power which will get him challenged as he rises up through the ranks. Doesn't need HRs, does need enough gap power to make teams play honest.

They have another kid, Rincon, who's also a plus fielding SS, bigger body but more questions about his bat.

Boyd is an afterthought, they drafted a bunch of fast OF types last summer and have some kids ahead of him.
