Benching Bohm for Sosa and using Stott in the 5-Hole is just baffling.

Rojas should not be playing either. I would have Wilson in. They need some f***ing offense.

Dombrowskis disastrous deadline is rearing its head.

Sosa for stott would have made more sense. Maybe a lefty/righty thing but bohm has hit righties better anyway. Stott just looks completely lost at the plate all year

He can say what he wants. Everyone can see the swings. They are feeble.

This is a guy that stuck with Castellanos in the '22 postseason and early this year when he wasn't even hitting his weight. I doubt very much in a pretty much must-win game he's willingly benching one of "his guys" for a guy that doesn't even have the platoon advantage (he wants the infield defense with Sanchez on the mound).

I kinda have faith in Sosa. It feels like him and Clemens often come up big when needed. If the offense is ice cold again I’d like to see Thompson get new bats in the game even at the cost of defense. Defense doesn’t matter if the offense is anemic

Am I crazy for thinking the chances they have a different 3B next year went up today? This just feels like a decision they don’t typically make.

Still not close to 50-50 or anything. But up.

well at some point you have to pull the plug on some of these guys because they just aren't that good. Stott, Bohm, marsh. None of them have really progressed. Bohm had a cup of coffee in the all star level but it seems that was the anomaly. realmuto is aging and in decline, turner is just average, harper isn't getting anything with Castellanos behind him. it's not good. this team really needs a reset and some infusion of talent. Dombrowski is going to have a hard time this offseason so I'm guessing we'll get the same team back next year and rinse and repeat.

0-4 yesterday with 1 BB and 3 K. He hasn't had a playoff series where his OPS was above .750 since then 2019 ALDS.

Bryce Harper career
Regular Season: .911 OPS, 21.63% Strike-out rate
Playoffs: .996 OPS (215 PA), 22.32% Strike-out rate

Harper with the Phillies
Regular Season: .924 OPS, 22.34% Strike-out rate
Playoffs: 1.137 OPS, 19.84 Strike-out rate (.323/.423/.705 slash)

Bryce Harper with the Phillies has 1 playoff series below .750 OPS and that was the 2 game WC against the Marlins. He had a 1.250 NLCS against the Padres for MVP. He had a 1.765 OPS insane series against the Braves last year.

Who is to say that he’s one of “his guys” though?

As Jojo alluded to it’s a decision that could have ripple effects that they don’t typically get involved with.

The “most educated fans in sports” love to criticize their stars and ignore the rest of the slop for not carrying everyone. How many times have we seen that?

It's always possible with the Arb years kicking in, but if they didn't give up on him in the years after his rookie year, I doubt they would when his defense improved and he hit even better.

I just don't think he's 100%. His numbers since returning from the IL are abysmal. Hitting with hand/hamate/wrist injuries is no joke. I'd like to see a rolling bat speed/exit velo graph (I'm sure the team sees them). I didn't watch a ton down the stretch but the last good ball I remember him hitting was in Game 2 in that Mets series at Citi field. At lot of ugly before and after that.

He was the clean-up hitter for pretty much most of the year. If that doesn't count then I don't know what does. He was a ~3.5 win player, even with the injury, their best contact hitter, can hit righties and is not a liability in the field for once (by the numbers), All-star (if that's your thing). You don't bench those guys in the playoffs if they are healthy.

And I like Sosa as a utility guy but if you thought their playoff approaches were bad yesterday, inserting one of the worst plate discipline guys in the league does not make me feel much better.

There's no benefit to saying Bohm's hurt one day after they put him on the playoff roster. He has 8 hits since his injury. Four came in one day. And he's got no pop right now. We can argue whether he's the most complete hitter or not, but the guy has literally hit in every league he's ever played in. It's a long track record. I don't think he just forgot how to hit.

Again, we are talking about a manager that wouldn't take a Castellanos that went 3 months without a HR, out of the 5 hole in a WS run, much less take him out of the lineup.

Sidenote, but the more I dug into the bat speed data they gave us this year, the less I give a single shit what it says. It only measures at the point of contact, so we've got a bias toward swinging harder on pitches at the bottom of the zone due to arm extension.
