This article doesn’t break much ground, but it has some important concepts in it: https://www.washingtonpost.com/arch...-reason/59839cd7-1d0d-45ad-a734-09cde0e20148/

It goes over things like swinging up, waste pitches being stupid, how effective fastballs up in the zone can be, don’t f*** up your footwork to hit the base with your left foot, bunting is archaic, and a bunch more. Things we all know by now.

Look at the date.

don’t f*** up your footwork to hit the base with your left foot
In college, we had a legit 1 hour baserunning practice...before a game! And the conclusion was it doesn't f***ing matter what foot.

I could never touch a base with my right foot. I needed to touch with my left to turn a la hockey crossovers.

Is there a scenario in which the USD doesn't decrease in value as estimated and years 11-20 are catastrophic for the Dodgers? I'm struggling a bit to understand why they'd opt for this sort of structure instead of a 10 year backloaded contract to where the AAV is actually $43-46MM.

USD will continue to lose influence and value IMO so in the long run Dodgers are risking a rogering..

I've seen one or two reports (can't seem to find them right now) from reporters who seemed to say Ohtani's agents were the ones pushing the deferred money and this was his/their idea.

I don't know enough about the tax code, but it may have been them framing it as "helping the team he signs with" when its more about avoiding significant personal income taxes.

Has there been any updates on Yamamoto other than the random "Yankees are interested" or "Dodgers are interested" kind of thing?

There's been reports of front-office meeting with or flying to meet with him and his representatives.

Mets flew to Japan and met with him. He is in the US last week (maybe still is) and has met with the Yankees.

Seems to be some twitter stuff that Dodgers acquired Tyler Glasnow from the Rays, but have yet to see an actual beat reporter/national reporter or more accepted 'credible' source reporting it as of yet.

There were rumors they were looking to trade for him, so might just be someone trying to get 'cred' by predicting something that is rumored.

Because of IRS tax codes I believe if compensation is deferred to 10 years or beyond (from the point of being earned) that compensation is then taxed based on the residence of the taxpayer AT THAT POINT, not based on where they were when originally 'working'.

So Ohtani can have his legal residence as in Japan and come 2035 that $68M will be taxed based on that.

Unless he established his permanent/legal residence in California he will only ever pay California taxes on the $2M a year.

Of course this is all predicated on very selective accounting and having the salary distributed a specific way. The Dodgers do not fall under the IRS category of a non-profit or government organization so that removes one of the options for having a deferred compensation not be taxed at state level.

There are certain retirement plans and annuity pay-out agreements that may qualify though.
This world is so broken. The riches dont need to pay taxes. Sure why not

Well they either need to enter into an arms race with LA and Atlanta or blow it up.

Yamamoto visited LA with Ohtani so I'd be surprised if he doesn't end up there.

Yeah the Japanese players seem to like the west coast. Closer for family and friends and fans back home to watch etc. would be nice though if he some how wound up here.
