Better people who culturally appropriate Native Americans with a racist chant, most recently on Indigenous Peoples' Day. Brilliant

I think it's mostly the ecstasy of victory talking. Which I am down to mainline. But I'm with you in that "can't win with Acuña" gives me "can't win with Matthews" vibes.

Just enjoy the chaos of small samples; not everything has to be a declarative statement (except for Harper, who might actually be a playoff Mt. Rushmore freakazoid). What being a playoff hero usually comes down to is individual runs or even the occasional series. Mookie Betts (noted bum) has a career wRC+ of 90 in the postseason. Turner is at 89. Acuña is at 120. It's not carry-you-on-my-back caliber, but it's okay for a guy who's still younger than Stott. It's Jeter's career number! I hope he reeks every series going forward....but he probably won't.

Looking at playoff stats is honestly a hoot. David Eckstein has a higher wRC+ than Buster Posey in a similar sample. Schmidt? Right there with Turner and Betts. Did you have Victorino as a better postseason hitter than Joe DiMaggio? There's 1000 examples: embrace the absurd!

TLDR: Acuna is a chump

;-)

James Hoye will be the umpire crew chief for the American League Championship Series between Houston and Texas, and Dan Iassogna will head the group working the National League series between Arizona and Philadelphia.

Andy Fletcher will work the plate in Monday's NL opener, with Iassogna at first, Mike Muchlinski at second, Lance Barksdale at third, Tripp Gibson in left and Adrian Hamari in right. Carlos Torres will call balls and strikes in the second game, followed by Iassogna, Muchlinski, Barksdale, Gibson and Hamari.

If robo-umps became a thing, how would it work? What if the calibration was off in the middle of a game or it completely went haywire? I feel something would be lost with the showmanship of punch out calls in big moments. It would be nice to get more consistency but there would probably be some unforeseen issues that arise from robots

Doubt we see a fully automated strike zone any time soon. Likely a player challenge system to start.

The technology (Hawke-eye( has been around for a long time now and is pretty reliable. It’s been used in tennis to call the lines for years and it‘s used in soccer for offsides and to determine goals.
