He's tracking to finish with around 4.3-4.6 fWAR. The only Phillies 2B to have more than 4.6 in a season was Chase Utley. Dave Cash had 4.6 in 1974 and 4.5 in 1975.

The combination of his defense with his offense just never was appreciated by the mainstream media.

When Howard won in 2006, Utley had a better WAR. When Rollins won in 2007, Utley had a better a WAR.

2008 though is the year that stands out. Utley had a 9.0 bWAR. Slightly trailing Pujols at 9.2. He finished *14TH* in MVP voting.

I think the traditional type of media members saw Utley as above average in the field but I don’t they saw him as one of the best like the analytics suggested.
