Taveres will take a home town discount I’m sure. He is from Toronto I believe.

Geekie is a RFA, I believe with arbitration rights. He's not the primary concern, he will eventually get signed.

The primary concerns should be anyone who is an UFA. Whoever is not signed on or before March 7th serious consideration has to go into moving that player. Bruins can not afford to let assets walk with nothing in return.

Whom and how the Bruins make moves will depend a lot on where the team is in the standing approaching March 7th.

Marchand is the primary UFA. Outside of Pastrnak, he is the only other experienced player with a higher hockey offensive IQ that also knows how to score. In many ways, regardless of his frustration and sometimes less than stellar reactions and play this season, he is still very much the heart and soul of this team.

Hopefully, the team and Marchand can come to an agreement that both sides are happy with before March 7th, because if they don't management will have a very hard choice to make. Where the team is in the standing will influence what they do with him. Unless, Marchand asks to leave, or - they have a verbal understanding in place before hand, but then the Bruins assume all risk at that point.
They should deal Marchand if they can.

I don't like it anymore than anyone else. But they have to get the best return while they can, and Brad will bring back a handsome return.

The ship is seeking regardless.

Talked to an Anaheim scout that lives in Kamloops here, former Blazer/Bronco coach and we discussed Zegras. His first words were you won't win with Zegras. Not a player to build around unless the Bruins culture can change him. Would rather McTavish if he can be had.

Sure , we'd rather get McTavish no doubt about it.

In terms of Zegras the reason he is available is everyone knows what your scout said.. He is overpaid and someone I am sure Anaheim would love to get out of town. No one is giving up real value for him . The question is, is Boston desperate enough to take the chance, and is Anaheim desperate enough to make it worth Boston's while..

McTavish on the other hand still has significant positive value, even if he hasn't necessarily lived up to being a top 3 pick. Maybe you could find a way to get him, but honestly I don't know how Boston does it unless it is a deal that starts with Lohrei maybe, and then ADD

Ok. I’ve had a few cocktails but if Kevyn Adams calls you up and says “hey I will trade you my entire roster for your entire current NHL roster” What’s your answer?

Mick Colageo joins the show to talk Bruins at 6:30 ET

Thank you for including Mick C. in your podcast. I could listen to him for hours.

His thoughts on the current season and specific Bruins players are illuminating. Should be required listening for members here.

Knowing Buffalo has super chance at top pick & Hagans and are a younger team, I would have to think the smart money would be switching rosters. Not something I would want to do because huge Pasta fan but I think I would.

Sabres have no backbone, none. Thompson gets run and no response. Bruins are older and not in great shape but I still would rather build around the core in Boston, just don’t want Sweeney doing it.

Again it may be the liquor talking but I think it’s the Sabres and it ain’t even close.

not much has changed over there in buffalo since 2011 i guess :sarcasm:

The main guys to get rid of are Coyle, Carlo and Marchand, Fred if he can’t be resigned. I don’t want Poitras or Lohrei included in any deal unless it’s a huge over-pay.
To those of you wanting to keep Marchand- why? Is he a key to us winning the cup this year? No, so take the best offer and move forward. I’m sure there won’t be a Marchand trade and we can look forward to “ We’re happy with what we have going forward. We decided to keep Brad as our own rental………” That will be Sweeneys stupid comment when he’s too fearful to actually improve the future of the team.

The opportunity is there to rebuild with young prospects by trading a guy on an expiring contract. I just wish we had a GM with the guts to do it and do it right.

Re: Brad

1. The team lacks leadership and he is one of the few that provide it
2. I think he still has a few more years to give
3. Are we really really sure it would be a “oh just come back in the summer” situation? That just seems naive.
