There's a theory that playing deep into June three straight years and with the very physical style they play that it is catching up to them, and I can buy into part of that. Over 300 games in that span is brutal. But the danger is that they are hovering above the 8th spot in the conference which is much stronger this year and they can't afford to slip past that and fight an uphill battle the rest of the way.
It appears to be that the are mentally fatigued and that is just as hard to overcome as physical fatigue.
They are very lucky to have Jones and Quick saving their bacon on more games than they should have thru 30. What if one of them gets hurt? You don't have a cushion of points to fall back on like last year when they took that post Christmas nose dive.

That's my concern with the lackluster regular season performances.

Eventually it's cost the Kings in the standings. What if The Nucks/Calgary don't fall off, and the Sharks get hot ? It's possible, look at Colorado last year/ this year.

It's troubling, especially with the consistent piss poor starts in games.

If the Kings miss the playoff's, you can be sure Lombardi would blow the roster up.

Not the core, but some vets would be gone. Missing the playoff's would be 100% unacceptable to Lombardi.

Sorry, missed the game due to work, but seeing the comments tells me Kopitar forgot to take his "Anti-Kopitar-itis" medication today. They need to set up a pill box for him so he remembers to take them.

^^^^ It's possible this is just not their year. Would it be so horrible if they had a first round exit (or less likely miss altogether), got some rest and came back kicking ass next year? It wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Missing the playoff's would be unacceptable to Kings brass I imagine.

Heads would roll, roster wise. There would be a lot of current roster players packing their bags, no longer LA Kings.

There is not a single NTC/NMC on this roster, Mike Richard's was voided.

Maybe we can find a way to mistakenly extend more important role players.

We are still on pace for right at 100 points. I can't remember the last time that number didn't make the playoffs.

Hmmm

2006-07 a team needed 96 points, then in 09-10 again 95 points.

2010-11 97 points was needed. Those are the highest I can remember.

Man, when Kopitar was on the ice tonight, the Kings only had 72% of the shots. What a bum just phoning in his performance like that. He should try next time and not get crushed so hard

Yeah, frustrating loss, but aside from a couple episodes of watch the Flyers skate it down the slot and score, the story is lack of puck luck. Kopitar was credited with 6 shots.

With how this team plays against most of them I really don't want them to wild card into the central bracket haha. But at this point it's just please make they playoffs. I fully buy the theory that they've just played too much hockey and I hope they have enough in the tank when it matters.

Well, with how much the Kings have played over the last three seasons maybe the injuries to Gaborik and suspension to Voynov are blessings in disguise. Wouldn't surprise me at all if those two are gonna play a big role in getting the Kings past the early rounds in this playoff year.

Pathetic - I would rather miss the playoffs than lose to the Flyers. I HATE the Flyers.

Just finished the game, what a disappointment! The Flyers had by my count only 3 good chances the entire game and scored on 2 of them. The power play let them down again against the worst pk in the league...the worst pk! Someone teach Carter how to hit the net again, high and wide seemed to be all he did today. You can't let a struggling team come in a scratch out a win, no matter who it is. Fox brought up a good point about how all the teams in the west are winning, and this was an opportunity to get 2 point and instead they gave them away. Damn this team frustrates me at times.

64 playoff games in the last 3 years. Not only is that almost an additional season's worth of playoff games, but they've also been ultimately successful twice.

Some of the things the Kings have done also has to creep into their minds. They've won without winning the division, or having home ice. They've tied, broken, and created, a few playoff records. They've won defensively, and they've won offensively. They got to the conference final in 2013 with Quick, and like 4 other players producing.

The only time we'll know what the Kings are this year is whenever they're done playing. Are they tired and just pacing themselves? Are they not as good? Only time will tell.

It really reminds me a lot of the 2013 team, to be honest.

The Canucks are the real deal this year as I predicted. They're playing really strong hockey.

...as they lose to Toronto.

They aren't real until they win a playoff round or two IMO. The age of that team dictates that they must be cup contenders, and they're not.

welp.

Looking at Carters wide open miss on the 5 on 3 pp, wow...wtf was that shot? It then rang around the glass and out. I'd expect Nolan or King to do that, but Carter?
