I saw a youtube video with him talking about the chiefs and he seemed to underestimate the chiefs, basically said their back 7 is not very good, and that is certainly not the case.
I was pretty nervous about this game, but then I went back and watch their Divisional round game vs the Jaguars. The Chiefs were so lucky to win that game it's pretty remarkable. There were 3 huge mistakes that cost the Jags the Game. 1. Christian Kirk dropped a 50 yard pass from lawrence that he should've had. 2. Lawrence was hit helmet to helmet ( very obviously too) and the no flag forced a drive stall at midfield and forced a punt. A flag there and they are in field goal range. 3. James Agnew with the brutal drop/ fumble. Had it been a drop on the field it wouldn't be overturned.
I believe we will have similar approach on offense. Spags only shot is getting us to 3rd and long. On other side of the ball, its going to be hard to stop mahomes. The injury and the new offense means a quicker passing game that is less explosive that limits opportunities to get to Mahomes. They do have 1 athletic freak and its Isiah Pacheco, who can turn a 3 yard loss into a 40 yard run. They also have Andy Reid who I imagine will script a lot of misdirection , screens, and man beaters early in the first 15 to keep our edge rushers off balance. Andy is not going to allow our dline to win the game, Patrick will be protected, so it will be crucial to force some long 3rd downs ( common theme to success in the nfl).
I think our secondary is going to have to have their best game, and I believe they are prime to do. This is the healthiest our secondary has been in a while and I am feeling more and more confident about our safeties. If you go back and watch that san fran game, CJ GJ was fantastic coming up into the box and making tackles, something that he really struggled with early on and Blankenship excelled at. Now that he is reading plays quicker and reacting quicker he is going to be huge in diagnosing these screens and misdirection plays early. He needs to play big.
Doug basically only called plays behind or around the line of scrimmage until the 4th quarter. They did have that one drop you mentioned but that was basically it though three quarters. The Eagles cannot do that, and I dont expect them too as the Chiefs got constant pressure. The Jags did however kill them on the ground 19 for 146 and none of them had a longer carry than 25 yards. They probably should have leaned on that more, as it was between a 7 and 10 point lead for the Chiefs most of the game and nearly all of the Jags were quick passes (Lawrence completed air yards has been the lowest in all of the playoffs so far). Obviously alot of it depends on the score but as long as the Chiefs dont pull away I expect a heavy dosage of running.
