The big question I have on D: are we looking at two FA safeties, or just one? I know we have Blankenship, but the cupboard feels BARE behind him. We probably could do with picking up at least three players at the position between FA and the draft, and I think we need experience and proven competence there more than anywhere else.

Definitely. These two high heavy modern defenses ask Safeties to do A LOT.

I think they're going to go name signing (CJGJ or Geno Stone, not a Simmons level) + draft + vet bargain with one of those guys being more of a Slot hybrid. Think Nickell Robey-Coleman level of attempted bargain on that last name. It could be later this month or even into camp. The caveat here is how Sydney Brown's recovery is going. If they think he's going to be ready, they're going to play him.

Personally?

I go Huff, but I've been on board with him for a month or so at this point.

LB...I'm going Al-Shaair as main target. I don't think they'll ever pay Queen even though we're desperate.

S...I wouldn't be surprised by CJGJ, but I can see Simmons with the Fangio connection. I want McKinney the most, but Simmons is probably who I see coming.

RB...No idea. Probably they'll stick to Swift. Swift legit may be the best option even though we keep hearing about SaQuon.

WR...I think the answer may be in the draft, but if no...Berrios or Samuel is who I'm going for.
Darnell Mooney I think

I was watching a whole bunch of Fangio breakdowns and it seemed to me the more pivotal defensive positions were athletic hybrid LBs capable of rushing and defending MoF, catching handed off coverages from the nickel. Would you argue safeties are more integral to this scheme? Or are they both important and it's splitting hairs. Most importantly, would you say that I'm wrong and am clueless? Because I'll happily admit that any day

Conveniently, these 2 positions are their worst lol

Everyone is becoming th highest paid something with every new contract I swear.

Dickerson is a monster though not saying he doesn't deserve it

Cap went up like $30m so it’s gonna keep happening.

Sounds like Maddox is visiting the Saints.

I wish they could have done this a year earlier because IOL contracts are soaring. But still great that they got it done early in the cycle of course.

Correct. Both LB and S versatility are important.

To me, the big thing that happened last year was that the entire defense was lost in communication. These complicated Match and Split Field Coverages require a deep understanding of exactly what's supposed to happen post-Snap and why. Byard has lost a step physically, but I do not buy for a second that he was traded here and magically forgot how to play Zone.

I've said before that I wouldn't hire any Fangio school guys at this point except Vic himself. Even more than as an OC, being a DC scales extremely well with experience. Having to install your system to new guys as the years and teams go by matters quite a bit. I don't think the Eagles' Back 7 was ever comfortable with the system last year. Plus being a DC requires you to be the counter-puncher on game day. There's a chasm between thinking you know what the answer is and having already tried various things and knowing how they went against specific offensive systems and QBs.

Feels weird that Howie didn't get it done last year cause he has a penchant to get these big contracts in early. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing (cough expensive ass QB cough) results vary. Still pounding sand for a future RT on a rookie deal with a 5th year option.

It just seems like we could be looking at like...6 new starters on D. Hopefully this all won't just happen again

I'm as big of a Swift guy as there was in Philadelphia before last year and I still think any complaints about letting him go are nuts.

The Bears are going to give him 12-15ish Guaranteed if they're on it this early. No. Never.

Never go full RB. That's so 2008

While we're here, I do not understand Houston's interest in Saquon at all. What he does and what Slowik wants out of his running game don't align.

I guess that means Fields will be gone. No sense in paying a RB that much money when Fields runs for 2500 yards a game
