Good backup. I like that quite a bit.

I’m particularly interested in what Minnesota does at QB. I think they’re run quite well and I’m also feeling McCarthy is the most likely option for them. I’m struggling to reconcile those two thoughts. At least they wouldn’t have any delusions that he’s close to a good starter today.

Really curious to see what Howie ends up doing. Not sure I like the rumors about Sweat being shopped (because we lose cap space there), but I can’t say I don’t understand why…the whole defense fizzled out last year, and Fangio may not see value in what Sweat can bring at the likely price tag an extension would cost.

The new trend should be higher quality backup QBs. I think it should be the mid round high upside draft picks that don't stay another year in college and have a Heisman season.

Sad to see him go, sucks to have the dead cap, but we have drafted high picks, they have to play and produce... and we do have a couple other guys there that are part of the depth.

IMO not a great draft for DL.
To have avoided the dead cap, Philly would have to have taken that cap charge in prior seasons. It is the old adage, Borrow from Peter to pay Paul, where they push cap charges into future years since the cap rises.

I think the range of dead caps last season was Cincy at the low end with like $3 mill to TB at over $80 mill. Even SF had like $30 mill in dead cap.

Between Kelce and Cox had like $40 mill in dead cap to account for between them still.

If they decided to make this year a reset year, could they pull forward some of Jalen’s hit next year into this?

Tampa made out well. That’s a 2 year contract with no dead money. It could even be 1 if they wanted to eat a bit.

I was gonna say. Ignore the 3rd (non-guaranteed) year. That's a 2-year, 60 million deal. That's more than reasonable in today's QB market.

If he hits the incentives, it's 2 years, 70 million. I would think that hitting the incentives would mean he would be well worth that as well.

running it back for 2 years then see from there...they still need a QB of the future but the South is kinda weak still...still need some Oline help and a better scheme on defense but this is solid

Howie SZN starts at noon today!

Let's goo0o0o0o0o

So which EDGE is it? There's too much smoke for them to not land one of the moderate or bigger options today. Hunter, Smith, and Clowney are too old. Chase Young doesn't feel like what they like in players. I don't think they spend on Burns or Allen. Huff, Greenard, and Van Ginkel are the guys we've had rumors around. All three make some sense.

I'm also curious to see if they go after D.J. Reader. That feels Howieish to me, depending on the price. So does a later Josh Uche signing if he needs to take a prove it deal.

Personally?

I go Huff, but I've been on board with him for a month or so at this point.

LB...I'm going Al-Shaair as main target. I don't think they'll ever pay Queen even though we're desperate.

S...I wouldn't be surprised by CJGJ, but I can see Simmons with the Fangio connection. I want McKinney the most, but Simmons is probably who I see coming.

RB...No idea. Probably they'll stick to Swift. Swift legit may be the best option even though we keep hearing about SaQuon.

WR...I think the answer may be in the draft, but if no...Berrios or Samuel is who I'm going for.

I don't trust anyone who is positive they know how good Patrick Queen is. I loved him coming out, so it's nothing against him at all. But he was awful for 2 years. Then the Roquan trade happens and a light switch is flicked. It does make some sense because of the way these MoF defenders stack. But it's a riskier profile than it looks on the surface. He's got 2 years of very good tape and doesn't even turn 25 until November. That's only around a year older than 5 probable 1st rounders next month. I would guess someone pays him way more than I am comfortable betting.

The big question I have on D: are we looking at two FA safeties, or just one? I know we have Blankenship, but the cupboard feels BARE behind him. We probably could do with picking up at least three players at the position between FA and the draft, and I think we need experience and proven competence there more than anywhere else.
