@JojoTheWhale Steve Palazzolo from PFF was just on Dan Patrick and he was really interesting. I don't know how reliable or credible he is, though. He was talking about how we are in a period where we have a lot of middle-class QBs who can have nice production if the situation around them is right, but unlike Mahomes, don't necessarily make much on their own. That's a terrible paraphrase, but it was interesting. He was also talking about defenses building from the back now.

Steve rules. He's absolutely right. Even 5 years ago, you would often struggle to find 20 QBs that give you any chance at all of making the playoffs. Now you've got guys like Bridgewater and Newton available essentially for free because almost every team has a guy already.

Part of the change is that NFL teams are using play and scheme designs that are run in college, part of it is that we've had a great stretch of QB talent, part of it is Brees/Brady type longevity, and part of it is aome very smart NFL teams being willing to tailor their schemes to unusual talent. The best example of that last factor is Lamar Jackson. What Greg Roman has done with that scheme is something most coordinators would be not just incapable of doing, but unwilling to even try. If he goes to Jacksonville, he's got zero shot at an MVP.

The Coverage vs Pass Rush debate is interesting. Joe Banner insists the Eagles have done multiple in-house studies that say Pass Rush matters more, but who knows how old those are. PFF says that Coverage is best, but it's also way more volatile from year to year. It's a really interesting question because even if you believe Coverage matters more, the Corners that are consistently excellent from year to year on one hand.

How did Ryan Tannehill get into the 60s of NFL's Top 100, but Carson Wentz missed the list?

Vomit

I'll see your Tannehill statement and raise you a Todd Gurley at 51.

But in all seriousness Tannehill played extremely well last year. He deserves to be on the list. That doesn't mean that Wentz doesn't. Mariota woulda done at least sixteen times better though.

Also, Calamari was on the list too.

As you said, I think this is the big thing. If you have one of those guys, then go the full coverage route and try to piece meal your D-Line, but you basically have to draft them, because they really shouldn't hit free agency or be available for trade. At that point, you have to maximize their time on their rookie/early contracts, because they're going to get PAID, and rightfully so.

It's easier to acquire D-line talent and rely on pass rush and then just play the numbers game in coverage.

The list is fairly obscene. Lots of names that make me scratch my head.

But hey, Carson's just got to go out there and prove it then. Gotta get some playoff Ws on the board to get his respect.

Yep. Doubly so because some teams are still overpaying for Sacks in two ways -- undervaluing Pressures that move QBs or rush throws and treating all Sacks as if they're equal. This leads to guys like Shaq Barrett and Yannick Ngakoue asking for and probably getting the moon and stars. This pushes the market down for other players who are often just as good or even better on the whole.

The exception to this has been Slot Corners. It's generally accepted as a Starting spot now. Even this year you see how cheaply NRC came. I feel like something is changing schematically here because all of a sudden they're loading up on versatile DBs. If they end up going to a Baltimore-like position-less Back 7, my head may explode in joy.

Yes! But also defensive ends are no longer allowed to obliterate QBs on every pressure.

Tannehill was downright great. If it's just who was the best last year, he's significantly too low. Going forward, I understand being skeptical.

But please don't take these lists seriously. Zack Martin, who might be the second best OL in football, is below Jimmy G. It's not worth your time.

Wentz not in the top 100‘s is just LOL. Also having Kelce and Brooks in the high 90’s is straight up disrespectful. I guess not much thinking went through this list
