Physically weak player with average at best intensity. Possible journeyman at best. I'm not holding my breathe.
I don't think he ever was. People got excited at college stats without watching his play.
College is a hard place to judge players, it's way less physical than the NHL. Kinda similar to the Q in that way, players' style doesn't always translate. ie. Kidney
Unfortunately his skating is nowhere near NHL level and his shot is non existent.

most prospects have ups and downs, he must keep working on getting quicker, stronger, better skating. He looks to be doing that but is it enough. Laval has struggled to create much offense outside of a couple players but he needs to get going. Scoring on that breakaway last game would have been good for him since his confidence is likely taken a hit. He's a very smart player but lacks physical tools, development can often take years so he'll either get there one day or he'll end up in the Euro leagues.

Funny, to this observer, the only skill that Farrell has that is close to NHL level is his skating. Farrell has to get stronger. He is too easily pushed off the puck and rarely wins board battles. But as his breakaway showed against Rochester, Farrell has straight forward speed and some quickness. I thought he played well with Beck and Davidson last night.

His shot is actually pretty good but his skating and size issues are significant.

Farrell is a below average skater....this is very common knowledge and plainly evident to see.
There are many factors that lead the average fan to believe a player is fast when they see him pull away from a defender on a break away such as shift length, anticipation, pivots......Farrell is not an NHL calibre skater by any measure.
I think what separates him from NHL caliber shot is ultimately the other two issues you highlighted. His shot is not heavy enough or released quick enough to be effective at the NHL level because he doesn’t have the speed or hunger/size to get to spots to make what he does have for a shot a threat.

Big time...nah. He did better than his selection suggested....but he always had his weaknesses despite his USHL and NCAA seasons...
Farrell has reached his ceiling. He,s a less talented Jordan Schroeder.
Our prospect pool was so atrocious under Bozovin that yes, he was hyped up quite a bit. Hell even Brett Stapley had people giddy. That’s how low the bar was set

If Farrell continues to play with Beck, I think he will start to produce. I'm not a huge fan of this player, but against Rochester, he had as many scoring chances as any Laval player. Let's see how he does playing with Beck (if that happens) who was able to find Farrell several times to set up quality scoring opportunities. Farrell will never be a play driver, but he has quickness and a track record of producing at the NCAA level. I don't think it's quite time to throw this kid under the bus.Except for the production.

His shot is fine and there is no such thing as a heavy shot....it is pure myth.
His work ethic is also fine but he is perhaps playing a little too cerebral and needs to attack the puck carrier more as he is playing the lanes and disappearing into the ether.
I was never very high on him due to his skating/size issues but I am surprised with how mightily he has struggled this season. There are some very prominent posters here who argued vehemently in his corner as well as Kidney's corner and said my concerns were unfounded due to their gawdy stat lines.....
I hope he turns it around as he has the brains and the hands to still be something of a lottery ticket.
Do you think Goaltenders in The NHL came up with a term for something that is mythical.
I used to fire lead pucks with a wrist shot for hours on end was that heavy.
