Has anybody read something about re-doing Slay's contract before the release??

If it's a straight post-06/01 release, his 17 million non-guaranteed base salary stays on the books until June 1st.

I'd rather have them reduce the base salary to the minimum (~1.5 million IIRC) first before releasing him so we get some cap relief immediately.

Would make no difference to Slay, he's not seeing a cent of that money anyway, neither the 17 million, nor the minimum salary.

I mean in the long run, we save a lot of cash.

I actually thought Jason Kelce wouldn't commit to returning until after 6/1 to give us cap relief...then "magically" he'd be ready to play again. But of course that's not what happened.

Yeah, but Kelce's contract was set up for a 6/1 release. As were BG's and Cox'. They all had bogus 1.5 million base salaries for the 2023 season. If you designate a post-6/1 release the base salary stays on the books until June.

Slay's contract wasn't designed this way. We save the 17 million in real dollars either way, that's true. And in the end, it's going to be 17 million savings in cap dollars as well. But we could accelerate to save 15.5 million in cap dollars for the next 2.5 months to give us more wiggle room in free agency and with draft picks.

Jalen Carter's only doing drills today. Ok, now he might fall.

The discourse is going to be interminable, isn't it?

Uhhhhhhhhhh

Carter, who was once considered a potential No. 1 pick in April's draft, weighed 323 pounds at the pro day. He opted to do only position drills and didn't participate in other aspects of the workout, including the 40-yard dash, cone drills and other physical tests. Carter didn't finish the position drills because he was cramping up and breathing heavily.

Sounds like he pulled a Boutte.

It's legit sad. We'll probably never know what happened with the accident.

On field effort was never, ever a problem. Boutte had games where he just didn't bother. Remember the nutty opener against Florida St that ended on a blocked XP at 0:00? That might have been 10% effort if you're being generous. He had no interest in playing football.

I had hopes Boutte could be WR1 but after that opener I had a bad feeling. Seen some stuff online where he had issues with Brian "I'm from the south" Kelly. The combine performance was the disaster on top of the terrible sundae. I still have a small iota of hope but dang.

No idea how far Carter is gonna fall. Let alone his current mental state. Life is bonkers and he's in the middle of the downhill on the rollercoaster.

Doesn't he have to agree to a restructure. It doesn't help him and only helps us...I can see him being salty about it.

Edit: Matt Ryan just got released. Isn't he a hometown kid from near Philly? Maybe he wants to ring chase for cheap.

You have to be joking. Did you see him play last year? He makes Tom Brady look like Micheal Vick.

Back to the Eagles, one major loss on D (Hargrave) and two minor ones. That appears to be it. Bad, but could have been worse. The draft will likely compensate, fully or partially, for those losses. I was hoping to have a shot at RB Jamyhr Gibbs with the late round first pick -- I think he would be scintillating in Eagle green -- but no chance now, to many issues on defense.

Oh yeah he is washed. But realistically the Eagles can't afford to spend on a backup QB like they usually love to do.
So someone like Ryan that might not flat out lose you games if Hurts can't go could be the best option out there assuming that he comes very cheap.

Yeah, he would have to agree. Tbh, I don't think it's all that common for outgoing players to do something like that without getting anything out of it in return. Without even factoring in saltiness. So probably not happening.

Howie is so gonna draft Hendon Hooker in the 2nd round :sarcasm:

Having Matt Ryan on your team is the spiritual equivalent of being Joe Flacco's least-favorite urinal.
