I think I would go insane trying to raise a kid near a pool and pitbull
Kids love pools, you just have to have a safety fence around it, which is code in our Twp at least. Keep a lock on it when they are little. Pits get a deserved bad rep, but if you train them, and not get a rescue, they are likely fine. Problem is the ones that were trained to be violent.

We had a Brittany when lil Swami was born, and that dog was nuts, we were concerned about jealousy. That eased when the lil one was 2 months old. We had bundled her in a snow suit to go out, briefly laid her on the carpet to gather stuff. Dog came over to say hi, and lil one grabbed both ears. I did a panic dive, but the dog just squealed and pulled back. Instinct I guess, she did not nip.

Pitbulls used to be referred to as "nanny dogs" because you could leave your kids with them and dog would protect them. Their bad rep has way way way more to do with asshole people abusing them and training them to be super aggressive. This little lady would have never hurt a fly. Unless said fly was threatening me.

Edit: I got her when she was around 2. I wouldn't call her a rescue per se, but I didn't have her as a pup either.

The "nanny dog" is a specific breed called an English Staffordshire Bull Terrier or English Staffy, Pitbull/bully breed is more a generic term to apply to a dog that meets a certain look and usually is given to a dog who is a mixed breed.

There are a lot of misconceptions about pitbulls in general. The biggest misconception is that a pitbull is naturally aggressive and dangerous, this is primarily due to a negligent owner, there are at least 15 other dogs more aggressive based on temperament tests, and the 3 bully breeds Amstaff, Staffy, and AMPT rank as some of the least aggressive. Most dog breeds are fine if not abused and properly socialized, pitbulls are especially resilient when coming out of a bad situation. If you have a dog that you do not know or you do not trust, it's on you the owner to keep a handle on the situation.

The one in the middle is my English Staffy -- this is my 4th, and the other two are mixed breeds. Which one is the demon? The trick question there is more than one. Hint it is not the English Staffy who only has a vicious tail, a smelly butt, and hates bears. The two mixed breeds came to us dog aggressive and the small one is a nipper. Even with the Staffy, he is in a fenced-in yard and on-trail he is on a leash. If kids are over, I know I can trust him but the other two nope.

One thing is that pitties play full speed and that throws off people, most pitties are that way around kids too, English Staffy around kids are usually pretty calm.

I was walking my 2 pit mixes today and some f***ing disgusting witch had an infant in her arms and an unleashed dog by her side coming up the road. If that dog ran at mine and was bitten, it's my dogs that die.

That is so wrong. My parents neighbor lets their dog off lease and it ran into my parents yard. They had just got a rescue Golden that had a tough life and was loving her new life and has a sense of protection. She snapped at the off leash dog and told it to get the f*** out. The neighbor tried to complain. Rightfully, my Mother told her to f*** off. Of course not using those words

The issue is that when pitbulls snap unexpectedly, they cause devastation. The pits who mauled those kids in Tennessee last year were apparently well loved and behaved for the majority of their lives.

Pits are great. I love pits. I don't trust any other human tending a pit (because unless I know them, I have no idea what level of control they have), and I don't trust my own dogs not do do something that gets them eaten. Here's looking at you Poppy, given you tried to fight a pitbull across the street yesterday.

In general I'm completely flabbergasted by anyone who doesn't take their dogs to the other side of the street if they see me and I am not in a position to relocate. I always do. It's basic safety.

I would have stopped there... but yea in terms of dogs (and not just pits) I see way too many idiots 'walking' their dog without a leash.

Which in my neighborhood is just ridiculously dumb, there's side-streets, cars can race up and down the street, and there's a fair amount of stray cats and squirrels that could be chased by an animal.

You can say that about any bigger breed, Rotties, Doberman, German Shepards, and a lot of "pitbulls" are mutts, which you usually don't know unless you know the "breeder". From my experience with English Staffys is they are the most tolerant dogs around, they are very gentle with kids, kids can pull their tails, step on them (by accident), and pull their ears, you as a parent still need to watch both the kids and the dog but I have more trust in my Staffy then any kids. I don't know about any other breeds like that. But like I also said any of my other two dogs, nope they are supervised when they are around kids, although the big blonde one doesnt like to be around kids -- shes gone.
