Stepping back to reality.

I’ll just want to cement myself into whatever tribe would rather have gone with Patrick as 2C, and Frost/Laughton as 3C.

Instead of overpaying for Hayes. I don’t buy no trades don’t exist out there either. They clearly wanted him.

I have said this multiple times when it comes to signing Hayes, even when defending the idea of bringing in another Center.

No chance theyd move Patrick already. Frost can easily start on wing like Giroux when hes ready, whether thats in 19-20 or 20-21.

Hell, we could end up losing Hayes in the expansion draft in summer of 2021.
Or...we CAN always trade him in 2 years when more kids are ready. Or Trade JVR. Or use someone to help us pay off Seattle.

He is free to acquire if he signs, but we will likely hate his contract. But if he plays in the top 9 and on the PK, he could keep up his value.

Wait...maybe he replaces Couts on the PP thus increasing his value for when we trade him in 2 years AND at the same time suppress Couts numbers so he re-signs cheaper in 2 years. Fletch playing 4D chess!

Hayes is going to get overpaid, but so will Duchene.
He's only 27 next year and he has steadily improved.
I think however, this isn't Fletcher but AV, AV had him in NY and must like him.

xGF/60: .102, -.075, .195, .114
xGA/60: .092, .142, .049, -.129
GAR EV: 3.8, -0.7, 2.5, 9.0
GAR PP: -0.5, 1.6, 0.9 1.3
GAR SH: 0.0, 0.1, -2.5, 0.5
GAR Pen: 0.0, 0.7, 0.0, 2.1

He's coming off a career year, but he's generally showed improvement, an above average offensive player who went from being a defensive liability to a defensive plus.

The fact that he can play RW is a big plus, we're crowded at LW, but unless Allison and/or Laczynski sign after the season, Kase and Laberge are our RW prospects close to the NHL.

There's some really good Twitter discussion about how Vigneault has deployed Hayes in the past. The back and forth between Sznajder and Shayna Goldman is worth a read.

I know, I know. It doesn't matter unless it happened in Philadelphia.

Tbh, if Patrick cant perform as well as Hayes and at least get equal ES icetime by his 3rd season, hes approaching bust territory.

My guess is their ES icetime ends up nearly identical.
There shouldn't be a huge difference between the 2nd line and the 3rd line anyway.

Lindblom - Patrick - Voracek
JVR - Hayes - Frost

could be likely scenario.

I’m super excited to hear people ***** and whine about Patrick’s lack of scoring next year while stuck behind Hayes.
in theory, he should get easier matchups so should be able to dominate then.

And at worst, Patrick will be playing with Linblom/JVR and Hartman/Frost. Could eb a very good scoring sheltered line.

You say that as if outplaying someone has any effect on icetime or opportunities...

You know better.

Hayes can play all 3 forward positions. He could hold down the 2C until Patrick or Frost prove they can handle the 2C spot.

Hayes also brings size, although I don’t remember him being all that physical.
