That's also where your best bet of getting 30 goal scorers from, not free agency.

I would've liked to have made a play for Zucker. Maybe that can still happen.

Isn't Zucker primarily a LW? We're pretty set there.

I guess in a world where career high 63 point guy Skinner is rumoured to be getting 9 million, getting Hayes in the 6-7 range is "fair".

Just think, the Jets paid 2 1st rounders+ trying to fill the #2 C spot(Stas and Hayes trades). We paid a 5th. And if Patrick comes in and plays great, we have great C depth again and all 3 are good defensively. And Hayes can PK which is nice.

Okay, let us all start the manifestation of the contract.

Throw out the numbers....
I'll start.

Hayes will want to be here and work with us for

5 years @ 6.25 per

Anything above this $ I'll get a little worried - I would be okay with a 6 year term if it comes to that.

After some sleep I like this move more, and I hope we reach a deal. Overall positives:

Fletcher is being active + filled arguably our biggest need.
Patrick can grow into his own and if this is his year to break out, even better. We'll be strong (or very strong) down the middle.
+ 2-3 years from now if Patrick is the real deal, you likely can trade Hayes.
Hayes could take some of the defensive load off Couts and create more favorable minutes and matchups for our top line.
Our 2nd PP unit can improve with him.
Good faceoff guy + can kill penalties.

Ok, now do the negatives.

At this point I don't care about the 5th and I hardly care about the contract.

The only issue is whether or not AV uses him and the rest of the roster properly.

I'm going to, it's just I read alot of comments, with in the 1st 2 pages many don't like it.

The comments became a lot more rational and level headed after the first couple of pages. Hayes is a fine player who upgrades our C depth and strengthens the middle 6. Hopefully his cap hit & term are reasonable.

If by "at this point" you mean "seeing who came back and what strawmen some managed to construct", I agree.

Ok, now do the negatives.

Gets overpaid
Falls off a cliff from his normal play, but that doesn't seem it will happen. Plus that's a risk/negative in pretty much any contract you give in any sport.
Lives up to his moments of disappearing in important games.

Positives outweigh the negatives imo

this reminds me of, eddie murphy wanting mc donnalds, and his mom giving him a homemade greesy burger w/ketchup that turns the bread pink.

Check back in a few years. You'll care about the contract, and it will mostly not have to do with the direct performance of Hayes. The domino effect starts now.
Oh it could definitely become a big problem, no doubt. I'm just saying that the more immediate problem could be even worse.

YES! This so much.

This signing makes us a 97-105 point team next year instead of a 95-102 point team (whatever, you fill in your own numbers). But it really hurts our chances of being a 110-point team in 2022.

And hey it could work out, we could get lucky and get to the SCF next year like St. Louis. But there's no way this is the optimal path long-term.

Exactly. Obviously the contract also. People forget that Hayes played wing for the Rangers for a lot of his time there, if Frost is ready for full time center play, no issue moving Hayes to the wing. One very good thing is no assets moved. I don't love him, but my Ranger fans really did. As always time will tell.

The breakdown: Fletcher and Flyers get a jump on roster...

His work at 5-on-5 is the strength of his game. Since breaking into the league in 2014-15, Hayes has scored at a first-liner or second-liner level during 5-on-5 situations in each of his seasons, if one considers the top 90-93 forwards by Points/60 to be “first liners” (30-31 teams, three forwards per top line).

In a few years the Flyers will have lost a player to Seattle, quite possibly a high priced forward like Voracek, JVR or Hayes.

If they go 4-4-1:

-Giroux(NMC), Couturier, Konency, Patrick
-Ghost, Sanheim, Provorov, Myers
-Hart

That would leave:

-Voracek, JVR, Hayes, Laughton, Hartman, Bailey, NAK, Lindblom, Vorobyev, Kase, Twarynski, Bunnaman, Laberge, Rubtsov
-Hagg, Morin, Friedman
-Sandstrom

It seems like Rangers fans felt AV misused Hayes by putting him into a shutdown role and not utilizing his offensive potential.

Not sure how I feel about that. It's possible his career year is repeatable but AV is now his coach again. Hmmm.

Really not looking forward to more middling 26-year-olds or whatever Fletcher is talking about. That sure sounds like trading for Trouba and trading Ghost or Myers.
How do you figure Myers? AV seemed to love him on Team Canada?
