Because he has value as a specialist. If he's on your top line, you should run fast.

But 3rd pairing - extremely sheltered?

That's a fine deal at 900K
Agreed good signing . Win all around for Philly. As they get better ( very slightly) pitt declines, isn't that the goal anyways??

Yandle straight up can't skate anymore. He was also pretty unimpressive on the Power Play, lots of stupid mistakes and pretty poor effort overall. I'll be legitimately surprised if he lasts long enough to get his Ironman record.

I don't think the Flyers are going to p***yfoot around that situation the way the Panthers did.

Last three seasons

Ghost
69 points in 161 games
28 PP points
0.428 ppg
35 points per 82 games

Yandle
134 points in 207 games
78 PP points
0.656 ppg
54 points per 82 games

Way more productive - check

Ghost
4.5 million

Yandle
900K

Fraction of the cost - check
Yandle couldn't even keep up in sheltered third pair minutes last season hahahahahaha. He sucked defensively three seasons ago too but he's not even NHL-caliber now. Oh but I forgot... you can read how many power play points he had. My mistake.

He and Ghost are both soft and suck defensively. They are paid and on NHL teams to produce points and mainly on the PP. Yandle has more PP points alone than Ghost has points over the last three seasons. Yandle's 18 PP points would have been first on the Flyers last season. Time to come back to reality.

Well PP specialist is a thing, but I believe NHL defender should be able to defend first and foremost. Ghost wasn't perfect indeed, but Yandle - and I can't say I call tell you everything about every defender in the game - sucked super hard at it last season. It was very visible because he was in spotlight regarding his very important record... He should've been benched, a lot of people noticed and joked about it. It's cheap contract, but guy is just useless as defender and actually also not needed too much as PP specialist.
That's because Provy was playing PP a lot, which is also good reason not to compare – Yandle like never left the ice on PP while Ghost hasn't been there as much as he should.
To sum it up, it's just 900k but same as 900k flushed. Veteran presence my ass.

The thing is if Fletcher is penciling him in the bottom pair, he's not signing someone else more suited to the role.
Maybe... but maybe York is ready mid season, or maybe someone will get injured. We had Hagger making what? 1.6M and everyone bitched and moan about him and now we have suitable vet for 900K?
It's not perfect but this is far from real bad move.

Our PP actually so much better everytime Yandle was off it
