Avon is a July birthday (still 19) who missed a year due to COVID. So there's room for further development.
Flyers signed him after a good showing in rookie camp.
6'0 174, probably fill out to 190 or so, good speed.
Scoring doesn't stand out, but in a 3rd line role, more limited opportunities.
Had 4 SHG in the regular season, 1 in the playoffs, so he's a key PK guy.

Has a shot at a bottom six role.

You know who did not show up too much was Othman for the Petes. I know he was drafted by NYR, but he was, I think, Capt's and my pick when the Flyers had the pick before trading it away for dumb-dumb......I was just disappointed in him last night.

I know that Seattle is a great team, but I thought Winnipeg was going to be competitive. Savoie, Geekie, and Benson were just shut down last night. Milic is a great goaltender for a Juniors goalie.

If the QMJHL game is on tonight I will watch Rochette. I think he was invited to camp last year.

I'm not sure why they have not offered him a contract. It is not like they are allergic to giving contracts to borderline NHL players - see Hodgson, Willman, Brooks, ND.....

Flyers prospect Cutter Gauthier continues to shine for Team USA at Worlds

Gauthier is two goals away from tying Patrick Kane (eight goals in 2018) for the most goals by an American man in a single world championship in the 21st century. Russell “Buzz” Johnson holds the U.S. single world championship record with 10 goals in 1950. The undefeated U.S. (6-0-0-0) can play in a maximum of four more games in which Gauthier can challenge those records — Tuesday’s final preliminary-round match against Sweden, Thursday’s quarterfinal, Saturday’s semifinal, and Sunday’s gold- and bronze-medal games.
But Gauthier is flaunting more than his shot on the international stage among grown men, many of whom are established NHLers. He’s shown a commitment to getting in on the forecheck, forcing a turnover along the boards on Sunday to set up T.J. Tynan for the U.S.’s third goal of the game. Gauthier has also flashed his speed and power in transition, using his legs to move the puck up the ice and set his teammates up for scoring chances.

The first game is scheduled for 7:20 am ET. The second game (involving USA) has an 11:20 am ET start time.

Team USA shut out Czechia, 3-0, in the World Championships quarterfinal on Thursday, and yes, the Flyers’ Cutter Gauthier scored another goal.
Gauthier, the Flyers’ top prospect, snapped a wrist shot off a faceoff to give the Americans a 3-0 lead at 9:57 of the third period. For Gauthier, 19, it was his seventh goal in eight games in the tournament.
“He’s got an elite shot,” American teammate Rocco Grimaldi said about Gauthier after the game. “He’s 19. So just imagine in five to 10 years what it’s going to look like.”
------------
Gauthier had a team-leading seven shots and was a plus-1. He skated 21 shifts for 17:38 of ice time. He is the Americans’ second-leading scorer and the sixth-leading scorer in the tournament.

Gauthier could probably score 20+ goals next season as a LW had he gone pro. He's got a pro ready shot and a pro ready body.

Which tells you they're committed to a rebuild, if they were thinking aggressive reload, they'd push for him to go pro, put him at LW, hope to get Couts close to 100%, maybe add a veteran center and roll three solid lines.

Instead, they want him back in college playing center, developing him without pressure.

This may cost them a few games in the NHL in 2022-23, but should aid his development - playing center will allow him to develop a more rounded skill set (more playmaking and carrying the puck in transition, a bigger role defensively, taking faceoffs) that would make him a better winger if he can't stay at center.

Maybe Avon should have gotten more than third line minutes?
Definititely but the Petes traded for guys like Othmann, Beck or Hayes this season alone so now the teams 2nd and 3rd best regular season scorers (Lockhart and Avon) find themselves together on line 3. They still play a lot though. Avon is also an important player for the Petes on the PK.
You could also use different line combinations of course. The Petes are just loaded upfront especially with Melee returning for the Memorial Cup.
