I'm probably gonna get blasted for this, but oh well. If Quick doesn't pick up his game between now and the playoffs, I see no reason why they couldn't go with Bernier into the postseason. The Habs did it with Halak in 2010 and went on to trade him that off-season. If anything, it probably improved his value.

EDIT: Come to think of it, I think Price might have been injured in the regular season causing Halak to take over and he just ran with it.

I would have blasted you earlier in the season, but I can't disagree with this at all. Bernier has so clearly outperformed Quick this year, it's not even close. I can't imagine where we'd be without him. Bernier doesn't really do the spectacular, acrobatic stuff that Quick does, but he is much better positionally, looks calmer in the net, and can handle the puck quite well (Quick scares the shiznit out of me when he handles).

Hopefully it's just the back surgery and the Stanley Cup hangover for Quick. I would hate to see Bernier go at this point.

Question:

Has a team who was won the stanley cup back to back ever done so with a different starting goalie each season? (Furthermore both winning the conn smythe?)

The Wings did for the bolded part. Vernon won the cup win them in 96-97 and then Osgoodenough was their started the next year.

Osgoodenough didn't win the Conn Smythe though, Yzerman did

The last team to win back-to-back cups was the Detroit Red Wings in 1997 and 1998. They won the first one with Mike Vernon and the second one with Chris Osgood, who was Vernon's backup the year before.

As for winning the Conn Smythe, it's only happened three times in history that the Conn Smythe Trophy winner in back-to-back years was a goalie. Bernier Parent won it in 1974 and 1975, Patrick Roy won it in 1986, followed by Ron Hextall in 1987, and then again in 2011 (Tim Thomas) and 2012 (Quick).

So in short, yes it has happened when a team has won back-to-back cups with two different goalies, and no, it hasn't happened where those two goalies each won a Conn Smythe.

Watching Bernier play instead of Quick is so relaxing because he's always so composed. Play next game please.

God our defense was great. Even if we got out shot I think we had much better chances.

Not sure if your old enough but remember Sean Burke? He only played a half season with the Kings but he was so calm in the net and every time I see Bernier I think of Sean.
I hate to say it because I love Quick so much but your right about Bernier.

We better get a hell of a player for Bernier this off season.

Bernier's stats are starting to look awfully good.

If he can finish out the season with stats like that, he's going to have some great trade value.

I liked what I saw out of Regehr. Moves slowly but he did make a few great outlet passes and did what I expected: stayed positionally sound, parked in front, and pushed guys out of the crease. That's what we needed, and that's what we got.

^^^^ that was good to see. He didn't have to scramble, because he seemed to always be in good defensive position.

Well, after a shutout win, that's easy to say about pretty much every player though.

Thanks. For some reason I still believe Sutter thinks Quick is our #1 goalie (statistically and quality speaking) and if we hit troubles in the playoffs we might pull a Vancouver last year with the goalie change and it will come too little too late.

This is the best part of the entire thing. JB has absolutely answered the question of rather or not he is ready to become a starter in the NHL. I think when everything is said and done that he will bring us back an awful lot when he is dealt.

What happens if Bernier has some kind of magical ride to the finals this year? There comes a point where you have to start looking at the numbers and Bernier is starting to really pull away. What do you think Deano does? Clearly he believes that Quickie is our number one but if we happen to repeat with Bernier in net? That poses a hell of a sticky situation going forward. Its a problem teams would dream of having.

It doesn't matter to me who starts, but Quick has played 7 of the last 10 and all but one game on that long road trip even after a stinker in Chicago. It is pretty clear what the staff intends to do.

Is Pavelec the definite answer for Winnipeg? They've been in some trouble lately, lost their playoff spot to Capitals last night I think. If they decide to go after him what can Bernier fetch from Winnipeg?

If he can finish out the season and the post-season with stats like that, you might want to start looking into Quick's trade value

send Fox some feedback on Dan M. the only way he will be pulled is if enough people make some noise. or he's caught smelling some dirty jockstraps in the locker room

Uncle Creepy needs to be gone from my TV

:sarcasm: We just need to make up some BS story that he was arrested drunk driving and get it on TMZ ... and bang ... AEG will see to it he's fired, like they did with Heidi  , can't have people embarrassing or tarnishing the good name of AEG afterall. :shakehead

Hard to blame him after what Quick did last season. Bernier's been great for sure, but he's been great for 12 games this season. Quick was great for 89 last season, including the playoffs. I'd be rolling with Quick still as well overall.

I'd think that contract numbers could play a big role in dictating who stays/goes. Despite his recent struggles, I think DL/DS have a ton of faith in Quick still, as they should, meaning we'd essentially have two world class, cup winning goalies in our stables, under your scenario. You'd have to imagine dollars and term on what Bernier would want on his next contract would play into who stays and who goes.

While I think Pavalec is the answer in managements head, at least until the end of this season (and longer if Winnipeg makes the playoffs and he does well there), if we dealt him to Winnipeg, odds are that we'd get back draft picks, which seems to be the standard market for trading potential number one netminders (see Varlamnov, Lindback, Bishop last year, etc.) If so, I'd imagine a 1st and a 2nd seem likely, based off what some reports have suggested in recent weeks heading up to the deadline.

Now that doesn't include what may happen if the market drops off after the deadline, but that's not a guarantee as Bernier is your normal trade deadline fodder, and as such his market value likely wouldn't be as impacted as others (such as rentals like Regehr). I'd imagine if we got a 1st and a 2nd from Winnipeg, the 2nd would be this year and the first next year, just due to the fact Winnipeg would only be dealing for a goalie if Pavalec didn't lead them into the playoffs, and as such it would potentially be a top 10 pick. So a 2014 1st and 2013 2nd?

If we could get a player in the deal, I'd imagine LA would look at a guy like Paul Postma or Zach Rdmond (or maybe even Zach Bogosian in a larger deal) if Regehr and Scuderi aren't returning, or if Mitchell isn't looking like he'd be ready for the season next year. Postma and Redmond don't hold great trade value, so we'd get back a fair bit with them, but they do have some good upside and are a bit more mature than most prospects. Holden can weigh in on these guys if he wants, and I'm sure he won't agree with me on postma, lol.

Up front, unless they are willing to move Schifele (which I can't see them doing) than there is little esle that appeals. Wheeler would be nice, but I can't see them dealing him, while Bryan Little would also be nice but I have no clue where we'd fit him as I don't think he plays much on the wing and seems like a much better fit at centre. He'd do well with Justin Williams, but it's not worth breaking up that line just to get Little. Patrice Cormier is a nice banger on the lower lines, but doesn't have much offense to back it up.

Also, if the Kings really don't think Jones is the goalie for the backup role next year, I'd be ok with them grabbing Edward Pasquale as a backup. He's done decent on the farm and looks like he could have a future, and he should be ready by next season.

How well would/could Bernier do in the playoffs with zero playoffs experience? That would be my worry. Quick was the starting goalie in the 09-10 and 10-11 playoffs before he did what he did last year.

Is Bernier an RFA? Is an offer sheet a possibility? What's JB worth, 3.25M? Kings could see their compensation dictated by the CBA, so maybe they look at sign and trade. They could get a ton at the draft in that scenario.

An offer sheet would be a possibility, but in all likelihood a trade will happen at or days before the draft, so he likely won't see RFA status again as a King.

if bernier gets offer-sheeted and he signs it, can the kings still trade him?
