It's not going to help Quick with the start the Kings had and the fact that he started most of those games that we'd all like to forget.

it's a tad silly how some people are talking about Quick. While he clearly isn't as sharp as last year, it's not like he's playing like Dan Cloutier. I would classify his performance as ok, he's not letting in a bunch of softies. Coming off back surgery, he clearly will continue to improve. The team defense in front of him is no where close to what it was last year. In most of his games, Bernier seems to face far fewer shots and gets better goal support. Not to denigrate Bernier, he's been fantastic and deserves regular starts, but the idea that Quick has been awful is a bit much.

That is what I was thinking, His numbers are bad. But Quick hasn't played that bad.

Look at Quick's last Three regulation losses. 3-1, 1-0 , 2-0 .....

You are going to blame Quick cause the team didn't score at all ?

Yes he has laid some stinker's this year. But that is going to happen when you play the majority of the games.

Quick also seems to be moving too fast to me, He is pushing so hard that he ends up out of position. So I have no idea where this injured stuff is coming from.

Quick looks too strong if you ask me. They guy is consistently said to be the most in shape and mentally prepared King.

A bad stretch of games and the guy is now washed up ?

You people are seriously losing your mind.

This also is just going to be a career worst year for Quick. They happen, Kopitar had one, Brown had one, Doughty had one ETC ETC.

Remember all those people that wanted Kopitar traded when he got his contract and didn't have a good year?

I have too admit I wanted more from Kopitar, I cried and moaned as well.

But I never said Kopitar was washed up , or trade the guy.

1) A few games might suggest otherwise...but he's doing a fairly good job...hurt or not...

2) Sometimes we need someone perhaps luckier against certain teams than JQ...and this is where Bernier (or insert quality backup) comes in... This has been my beef all along with the DS rotation (or as some call it the run the goalie to the grave rotation)... It would have also given JB at least four extra games with the rotation I was suggesting this season alone...

I am likely wrong but isn't the cash amount set at $3.5m on signing an RFA for getting back a 1st and a 3rd?

These are the compensation levels they were set to use prior to the lockout and I believe they are still in place now, as the proposed cap level didn't change.

A 1st and a 3rd would require a bid of over $3,364,391 for a cap hit in order for us to get a 1st and a 3rd as compensation.

I'd wager Bernier would fetch roughly $3 million -$3.3 million on a 2 year contract RFA offer if one were presented. It's not to high for a co-number one netminder, which is what he would be at least with his new team, but a bit to pricy for us as a back-up, which is largely what he is to us. And at $3.3 million, we'd only get a 2nd round pick back as compensation, so great incentive for someone to make a bid.

Thanks kf I am always a bit off on those things.

That said, I think that we would match anything lower than $3.5 and just do a sign and trade sort of thing. $3.5 is cheap for a goalie of JB's stature and I bet a team would offer a nice package of picks prospects etc to get JB for that cheap.

Just a thought but I would bet that we would go that route, what do you think?

You can't do a sign and trade. If you match an RFA bid you can't trade the player for one full calendar year.

Again the education continues...

I thought that there was something like that but wasn't sure. I will say though that at that price we could afford to keep JB for a year. Wouldn't suck to have him around again.

We will deal him this summer before the draft. DL wouldn't risk it and, the offersheet would have to be something in order for JB to take it to the Kings after everything he has received by being a part of the team.

In other words, I think we will be alright regardless.

Man, I am going to have to read the new CBA this summer. The last time I read anything was after the 04 lockout and even then I was shakey.

I don’t see how anyone could argue that Quick is washed up. I’m certainly not saying anything of the sort. Goalies are up down season to season. No reason not to believe Quick could have a great season next year. In fact it probably trends that way. He could even pull it off this year if he finishes strong. His numbers are mediocre for being on team that takes pride in playing defense. Limiting the chances/shots. He isn’t playing for the Panthers. I f’n love the way the Kings play, I think a lot of goalies would do well in their system. All I want is another cup… if things stay the same I like Bernier as starter this year. Doesn’t mean they have to trade Quick.

I do agree with this, noticed the same thing.
