Just finished on DVR, and gotta say - much of that game was a chore to watch. If they get a bigger national spotlight with these games, they aren't gaining more fans with a grind-a-thon like that.

The presentation was top notch. Bell Biv Devoe with the Boston Pops was great, though I suspect a dab of auto-tune was on their voices. It would have been the opportunity of a lifetime for a deserving Todd Angily, though.

People complain about Jack Edwards going off on tangents, but these national games are appalling with both a color guy and Darren Pang between the benches, yapping incessantly. Ullmark made multiple otherworldly saves early on that would have had Edwards jumping out of his seat; yet the national crew barely even acknowledged them with their pointless prattle.

And Eddie O - EVERYONE in the stadium and at home knew Jarry had an issue. Let it rest, for crying out loud.

All's well that ends well. Great day, great event, great outcome. But the high-scoring, high event games that were so entertaining are now few and far between. No need to panic, but opponents are obviously game-planning and bringing their A-game. I would like to see the Bruins make adjustments back, and also start the games on time.

I can’t overstate what Taylor Hall brings to this team. I’m not an expert when it comes to hockey Xs and Os, but Hall is a dynamic playmaker that absolutely makes a difference almost every second he’s on the ice. He has the talent of a Pastranak and the relentlessness of a Bergeron.

He loves being a Bruin, and I love having him on our team.
This. Taylor Hall is amazing. It’s like he is playing in front of his mom for his first game every single shift. I absolutely love watching him play.

Lurking on the Pitt PGT and they want Sullivan’s head.

Sullivan is a great coach who'll eventually rightly be revered in Pittsburgh for all time but right now he's been with the Pens too long, past his used by date. Cassidy is a good coach too, but Bruins management worked out that he'd had his time and grown stale/grumpy, and moved on from him. Now they're reaping the rewards.

And that's emblematic of the difference between the two organizations as a whole. The Pens have clung on to too many of the same personnel and methods, and the whole thing is worn out and no longer in a position to seriously compete for a Cup. Boston could easily have gone down the same path but they've done more to renew and bring in capable fresh players, people and ideas and are in a better place as a result.

No-one can question that the Pens did better in maximizing their Cup window. 3 Cups is better than 1 and that should keep their fans content, except for the needy/whiny ones, for awhile. But the Bruins are in a better place at present and going forwards. We have our share of challenges too, but it could be much worse.

Ullmark does it again. DeSmith was very good too but Linus definitely had more to do and kept the game close when it easily could not have been. The Bruins were horribly disjointed in the first 30 mins and they turned over the puck far too much. The Pens played a good road game, kept things simple, lots of dump and chase and clogging of the neutral zone, and Boston for a long time did not cope well with it and gave up multiple quality chances.

Kapanen's goal seemed to wake them up a bit but it still wasn't really 'til the 3rd that they found that extra gear they've displayed so often this season and properly started to go to work. Not as effectively as some other times, but they were easily the superior team in the last period and only gave Pittsburgh one good look that I can recall, when Heinen missed the net from the slot. They tilted the ice, Jake and Hall put on a couple of nice power moves, and that was enough. Ullmark has done so much to keep his team in the game through some bad starts, but most of the time they've honored that effort by coming through with the goods in the end, as they did here.

The team as a whole is still spluttering a bit and there were a few players in this one who seemed to have little impact, but given the unique circumstances I think it unwise to read too much into this game in particular, and as long as they keep picking up points then at this time of year that is largely just fine. Marchand at least had a very good game, especially in the 3rd period, and that was encouraging. And DeBrusk has become such an impact, far more complete player.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this. Not the greatest game, but the right result, Fenway looked amazing, everything was presented well, it was fun seeing the players get into the baseball spirit, and the ice actually seemed to hold up ok, all things considered. Yeah it was choppy but there were no major issues, and when players adapted to it and played direct then there was some good offense displayed. The Pens' tactics did more to slow the game down than the ice itself.

And I actually think TNT do a solid job with their coverage. I could do with less Edzo and their panel is pretty rubbish, but the production values are very good and they clearly put time into the coverage and content and making the whole thing feel special. I get that people have some complaints, but I'll take what they're serving up any day of the week and it's much better than what ESPN dish out.

A fine day indeed.

The Penguin board is ungrateful and weird regarding Sullivan. Like any coach he will do seemingly odd things: He will put out a strange line combination or play favorites or make an unexpected benching. The Pens have a spoiled fan-base. How could they not? But for a team that had Mike Johnson and others, they sure don't appreciate Sullivan.
Don't sleep on them though. The talent is there. The health and probably the goaltending is another question.

Four consecutive first-round exits, and no sign that this current squad is any better. There are a few teams in the east that I think can seriously trouble the Bruins, but Pittsburgh are not one of them. You need legit pace and/or really solid depth at both ends, and the Pens have neither. In the NHL playoffs all results are possible, but the Bruins or any other serious contender have no business losing to this lot. Their time is done.

I hate the Pens because of Bettman's obvious favoritism and their corresponding sense of entitlement. However, the talent and even the pace are there to trouble the Bruins. Malkin and Carter have slowed down but not the rest. Just because a few teams are better does not mean you can sleep on them.

Who are the guys with genuine wheels on that roster? Zucker, Kapanen, Rust, Rakell I suppose. Who else? It's not enough. By modern standards this is not a quick team. I'll concede that no team can be completely written off, history amply proves that, but if I were to compose a list of all the eastern franchises that are legit playoff contenders from highest to lowest in terms of my worry factor regarding their chances to beat the Bruins, I'd have them right near the bottom. I honestly just can't see it.

A thousand miles from nowhere
To me Brad had a big hand in this win. He really poured it on in the third

He looks like he is a great Dad. It was fun watching him with those kids.
I think he's ready to bust out soon.
Even though he hasn't scored much, he's still second on the team in points even though he's played less games. When he gets hot again it'll be fun to watch.
