A fiesty, offensively crafty, engaged defensively 3C/W – who is a good player comparable if that's Krebsy's ceiling? I rarely watch other teams.
Kinda makes me think of Cirelli description wise. I don't think krebs peak will quite touch cirellis peak. But krebsys a good player and I think his versatility and ability to play W/C and on any line is extremely valuable for a middle of the roster up and comer. Really appreciate his IQ away from the puck as well.

Krebs is good. And he's only getting better.

Thompson-Cozens-Krebs-Jost is the center spine they should build around.
Krebs has a long way to go before we should be declaring that.

His biggest issues are being overly cute and aggressive to force offense. Essentially a swashbuckling turnover machine. Playing with Girgs/Okposo has forced him away from that type of game. He is learning to grind out results. Its led to a better version of Krebs. Plus Girgs/Okposo can cover for his mistakes when old habits creep in.

The above is the reason I didn’t want him anywhere near Skinner’s spot. The temptation to go back to that swashbuckling turnover machine would be too great playing with skill guys like that.

When Krebs is consistently playing like he is now (with Girgs/Okposo) with two skill wingers is when we can start thinking along the lines of him as a center to build around. But we’re not there yet.

He hasn’t figured out wing. Krebs at center playing the way he needs to makes an impact. Krebs on the wing is a non entity

I mentioned in the Mitts thread that Granato wanted at least one of Mitts/Krebs to figure out wing. Then he’d have the option to play both in the top 9. That wasn’t going to happen if they're both centers. Hopefully Mitts is starting to get it and gained confidence after a stint on the top line

Krebs needs to be a centre. He will come along. He is much more comfortable in the middle.
Thompson-Cozens-Krebs-Jost is a nice centre spine. Then you have Savoie and Ostlund marinating for a few years.

I think Olofsson is at his best with Asplund.
Mitts is the guy outside looking in and I like Mitts but he might be the trade chip for a Dman upgrade.

He's almost equal to Thompson..

In penalty minutes!

That's impressive considering the ice time differential between the 2.

This last month, he's grown in terms of making the right play so much more. Almost all of the backhanders to nowhere are gone. He snaps pucks to linemates with authority. He regularly works to keep a cycle alive low with the two players on the team who cycle best, using his quick feet to get in on the forecheck in those situations. And from the reaction of his opponents, the PITA aspect of his game is getting under their skins as well. Goals in high traffic areas, puck wins, cycle... helping his line tip the ice. It's been a really nice maturation and he continues to give Okposo-Girgensons more speed to compliment their wall work.

Peyton has started to play winning hockey.

I gotta admit, before December I didn't think he had Pest in his game, but here we are.

Totally agree. He’s becoming a real bottom 6 forward. I could see him having a Josh Bailey career, which, frankly, would be a real win given I (and most others) was ready to declare him a bust 3 months ago.

He had that pesty-type play in him in juniors......he just needed the confidence (and linemates?) to unlock it. Now....the big question will be -- can he maintain that level of play/pestiness away from our grindy vets?

Yeah, that guy that can play a middle 6 role would be fantastic. Can play on the 2nd line in a pinch or anchor a 3rd line.

Donny doing Donny things again turning Krebs into our 3C right before our eyes. The offensive IQ is always gonna be there, but teaching him and getting him to commit to a different portion of his game to help this team win games now and in the future? That's huge.

If Krebs ends up being a tenacious, playmaking 3C who can put up give or take 50 points we are sitting pretty. He will only get better as he fills out and adjusts.

I didn't watch him a ton as a prospect but I do remember him being very feisty down low. I'm not sure I'd call him a "pest," even now, but he's starting to look more like he did as a prospect against peers.

Feisty is a great way to describe his game.

Him figuring out how to play smart has been part of unlocking this last stretch IMO.

Making him play with Okposo and Zemgus is another stroke of genius (ok - that might be a slight over-statement) by Granato. It's forcing him to play a different style of game that will benefit him in the long term. I'd like to keep this line together all season. I also don't see any reason why that line can't increase its production as the season rolls on.

The flip of him and Jost has done wonders for Krebs adapting to style, fitting in with the line. Potentially even more surprising to me is how Jost has maintained the energy he brought to his new role with Mitts moving to the wing. Those two (37 and 17) have found some measure of communication as well IMO.

I'd still like to see Krebs getting inside more for shot options. His faceoff work, like most of their younger players, needs an element of consistency. But all of that seems like it is moving forward while the rest of his game has simplified and his impact on his line has improved.

Eventually next season I'd like to see Krebs and Jost flip, and have Mittelstadt, Krebs, and Kulich on a line together. If Asplund can get back to where he was, put him with Jost and Girgensons.

With each passing game, his confidence is only growing.

Feels very Reinhart too, where he'll make any position they put him in work through force of will.

If Aspland and Kulich are in the plan for our bottom six next year, then we will have failed the offseason.

I like Jost better on the wing. He's effective there, too, and can provide C depth in a pinch. I'd really love to see a defensive center who's good at FOs added in the near future if Mitts doesnt pan out at the 3C role. Said player can move down ton the 4th line if/when Krebs is ready to center a top-9 line.

As for Krebs, he's becoming a good player before our eyes. Granato knows what these young centers who try to do too much need- and that's a stretch of games with Okoposo and Girgs.

Cozens went throw his growing pains, then was put with Girgs and Okoposo to simplify his game a bit. What a blessing it is to have those veterans to lean on.
