I agree with the need for patience and allow Krebs time to keep developing. But I don’t see a parallel to Cozens development.

From a development pov Cozens was miles ahead last season to where Krebs is this season. Mitts‘ game one injury forced him into a top 6 center role that he handle pretty well for someone his age. He also played on the PP, Pk, closing out games, etc. He was even tasked a few times with crazy difficult matchups like McDavid. He did all that with a revolving set of wingers.

The points weren’t there yet for Cozens last season but he was getting tasked with far more diffuclt minutes, so it was understandable. Plus he was showing he was able to contribute in all situations with upside to come in all areas. Whereas Krebs is still looking to establish himself in the NHL.
I don't think Krebs is on Cozens' development path, per se. Just illustrating that Cozens, at this same point, while ahead of Krebs, wasn't lighting up the NHL universe either, so we should have a little patience with Krebs.

Last night was the first time since he drew back into the lineup at the end of November that we saw the a couple of hope passes. Considering how the team was playing, perhaps it is a sign of fatigue. If it continues to creep in, that's a problem, but until then, he had a nice 15-ish game/6 week run giving them energy minutes on a line that is best at grinding on the opposition. Still think he's likely to figure he needs to go back to the cycle game that was working rather than last night's errors.

I completely agree with having patience. I’m not sure what he tracks out to be yet. His inability to handle wing I think is hurting his chances to play with better talent. At least at the moment.

Meanwhile, Bryson still has a roster spot.

Cash out (he might clear now) and next in is Lawrence Pilut.

Now, fix it correctly, and have the young guys continue playing.

They only have 7 defensemen in Buffalo. They aren't going to shuffle a defenseman out right now, that would be silly. Krebs gets a day out of the lineup. I would expect Peterka to be next.

True, and needs to be addressed with a proper add right away.

A prompt addition/ acquisition would need to free up another spot in such a move.

Agree, out next is Peterka, and this is because of below average D plugging roster spots.

Its because the only D that are waiver exempt are Mattias, and Power.
Of coarse, and I'm forgetting...

On topic, a year ago Tage Thompson called Peyton Krebs “one of the smartest hockey players I’ve seen.”
Sabres fans have watched him realize some of his potential, and have reason to hope he can hit his ceiling.
He is prone to some turnovers, but has the drive to work on his game. His vison and passing are excellent.
With the vigor he displays, Krebs will likely keep developing into a VERY effective 2-way player.

xBuffalo doing a dive on Krebs:

Just looking at him being way, way closer to even at 5-on-5 instead of being outscored nearly 2:1 like last year is a major win. His scoring is down a bit, but his impacts are way, way better to team success.

Feels like Krebs’ upside has largely been forgotten 100 games into his career.

Looks to me like he’s growing into a very good pace-pushing 2-way 3C. Love how he is being integrated into the PK and think he has the skill set to become very good at it. Also think his playmaking ability on the PP is something we will see Donnie reintroduce as time passes. He’s becoming much more reliable 5-on-5.

In a lot of ways he is the poster child for team identity: fast and plays fast, not physically imposing but hyper-competitive, game built around puck pressure, young and getting better.

I think people have started looking beyond him too quickly; he’s still very much part of this team’s future.

The idea of being able to run Tage Dylan Peyton as a top 3 over the next 4 or 5 years is very appealing to me.

Yeah, that particular part of his chart absolutely POPS. I'm curious to see how he and Mittelstadt work together if that line is left in place for a time since they both seem to be getting into a groove where they pressure and the F2 can make a play off of it. Mitts/Jost had that and it looked like Mitts/Krebs has that too.

Great depth of analysis. I wish when they did those they'd include his QoT and QoC scores to see how usage changes year to year too. My guess is he's playing easier minutes this year.

He's been much better not trying to force the fancy play when it isn't there. he only does it 30% of the time now, as opposed to 70% last season.

Unfortunately he is still a turnover machine.

If I am Granato, I am telling him:

"Is there a defender between you and the home-run pass target you want to make? if so, look for the safe outlet pass. If there is no safe outlet, ask yourself, 'is there room to skate'? Only if both A and B are 'no's, should you attempt the low percentage pass that was your first instinct."

"Oh, and one more thing, no more blind behind the back passes. Ever."

Krebs simplified his game a bit this past year, and I think that was a good thing (no more blind soft drop passes after just entering the offensive zone). However, I hope the creative passes come back at some point. He delivers passes sometimes that make your jaw drop.
