Have we clarified which Elias Pettersson said this? Maybe it’s the new one coming in hot.
It's 2023. If you tell the team you want out and you're not signing, they're trading you. They are not holding your rights and playing the "You can't leave, we own you", game. All these organizations want to improve their roster as soon as possible. Trying to waive your fist at somebody ain't happening these days.So what exactly defines a "successful season"? Critical terms should be clarified here.
Especially since there's a bit of an inherent Catch-22 involved.
A "successful season" for the Canucks, is probably one where they can get Pettersson signed to a long-term contract extension.
Plus, he doesn't entirely have a lot of choice in the matter just yet. He's still under team control for the time being. He also doesn't seem like the type of competitor to just completely sit out a season over this kind of thing. So...
Offering him $14 mill per year for 8 years would likely be successful in his eyes.So what exactly defines a "successful season"?
Damn FRIEDman… thank you for the clarification. I feel dumb now >_<Pettersson didn't say that. Thread title is quite the interpretation of Eliotte Friedman's opinion.
I was looking at their cap and there is roomThinking now they may go after Tatar to help secure a playoff spot

Trade him and tool up. Any player that makes that kind of public statement needs to go, whether he has a point or not.
Truth hurts? They are at different stages but still suffering from similar results. As usual you never cease to amaze me zero![]()
He can elect to just sign his qualifying offer next spring. That'll take him directly to UFA status the following spring. He can also elect arbitration or even sign an offer sheet if one is presented. It's not unlike the Tkatuck or PLD situations. Remind me how those situations played out.As if he has a choice as an RFA. Going luck staying home not getting paid.
He would go to arbitration and secure a bigger contract than his QO. All the Canucks would be doing is decreasing their return the moment he only does a 1 year contract. He can elect to just sign his qualifying offer next spring. The only good thing about this is he is a RFA and Vancouver will get assets back.
The problem is that it's Vancouver making the trade and they will lose it badly.
Mikheyev is 100% ready to go, it’s Pearson that creates an issue if he’s backI was looking at their cap and there is room
But they have that Mikheyev IR. If he comes back they are in trouble. I don't know what's going on there. Really, they need him back healthy
No cap unless we move Myers after Sep 1stThinking now they may go after Tatar to help secure a playoff spot
plan the cap for it. the rangers are notoriously capped out.Well we know Zegras is taking the first train to NYC when he gets the chance![]()
Nothing wrong with that. It sucks to lose.Wants a piece of the pie but only if it's sweet and not sour.
