I had pretty much resigned myself that this coming season was not going to be overly different from the previous seasons. Too many things have to go right for us based on what we had last year and with the available goaltenders, it didn’t feel like one would have made that much of a difference over another. I think a one year deal was the best we could do without gambling on another potential #1 G and putting ourselves in another hole.

Whether we like it or not, Carolina is not a premier destination and hasn’t been, so let’s not pretend that this has only changed with Dundon coming in.

And let’s not forget that carolina did try to make a move and from all accounts had a better offer when they tried to get Grubauer, who was looked at as our best option. It’s not like they sat on their hands and didn’t try anything.

Would anyone have felt great with any of these goalies under the contracts they signed?

I didn't originally know that Harri Säteri was also on market. He would have been definitely a good choise. Somehow he has not got a good chanche still to show in NHL, but for example I was in Podolsk (business trip's fun side) couple of seasons ago watching actually his very last game on vitjaz against SKA and I could see he had impressed the fans there and for a reason. He definitely would have bene worth of his price.

Nah, I'm sure they've got a plan. What we should question is whether that plan is better for the organization and its fans, or better for Dundon and his future plans.

For the love of God, is literally every transaction (down to the Wednesday Cook Out lunch runs for the front office) going to be used as "proof" of Dundon's master plan to move the team to Houston?

If Darling is good (unlikely), the backup doesnt matter.

If Darling sucks (likely), the backup has to play a lot and play well to salvage the season. We know Ward can't do this. He'll get his hot streak ,then crash and burn. Mrazek might do this. He also might crash and burn, at which point you don't re sign the dude.

What I dont understand is the thought that putting this off for another year will make it easier. Teams did more to acquire backups than we did to acquire a starter. We ****ed up in the expansion draft goalie carousel and are nevr getting off.

They didn't put it off. They took a stab at Mrazek while giving Darling another chance to get his shit together and Ned more time to play in Charlotte and an opportunity to step in if there's an injury or poor play. If any of those end up being the answer, great. If not, they have flexibility to try again next summer.

Final Thoughts on Petr Mrazek

An interesting piece on Mrazek. Maybe a reset for him might be a good thing. Especially if he's been sold that it's a fair competition, instead of what he had to deal with with Howard in Detroit.

A reset would definitely be a good thing for Mrazek. But how do you think he will react if Darling gets 2 poor starts in a row and Mrazek gets a quick hook?

I question whether a goalie tandem with Darling is the best spot for Mrazek to reset after reading that column.

It's not hyperbole to say we go into next season with hands down the most miserable situation in net in the league. Along those lines, I'm not sure offhand if I can name a team that went into a season with a worse situation than the one we have now.

2014-15 Sabres were my thought off the bat with 2 unproven backups.

Neuvirth + Enroth: 19 wins in 64 games. Sounds about right.
