That's been because of Brannstrom, not Desharnais. Desharnais away from Brannstrom is a disaster. Brannstrom needs to move up, Desharnais needs to move out.

And on Desharnais: he’s been horrible. And I know he can and may improve, and hopefully will, but this isn’t a team at the stage where we should be targeting projects that may or may not be NHL calibre, and paying them $2 million or year or whatever we are paying.

Still lots of time but as of now looks like a major pro scouting miss.

I think Brannstrom has been good but his minutes have been pretty sheltered. He did play a bit with Hughes last game I think with Hughes on the right side and that pairing looked great, at least in the offensive zone, so perhaps a Brannstrom - Hronek pairing could work. Not really sure who you put with Hughes though. Probably need to get external help.

Yes, medium term they need to upgrade but trade prices are astronomical so they need to have a coaching solution that utilizes their current assets until the trade market loosens up.

Any discussion of the state of the Canucks blueline stats and ends with Myers. They re-upped him to a three-year deal at $3m a season.

That's a reasonable number for a guy who can play in your top four.....but it's a bad contract for a guy who can't. And right now, Myers can't.

So the Canucks will almost be forced to join the long line of teams searching for somebody to anchor a second pairing. And whoever they acquire, won't come cheap.

The Stillman trade is a WTF trade. Buffalo actually targeted Stillman. I recall Sabres fans saying we were wrong about Stillman after watching him play a few games. Don’t know what happened to him but he hasn’t seen NHL action since.

On the other hand, maybe Bloom isn’t an asset. Sabres fans were high on him but in reality he was the second last pick in the 3rd round signed to an ELC whose development had stalled. I liked a Bloom at the time of the trade as well but in hindsight he’s probably a guy Allvin chooses not to sign if he had a choice. Then again, it seems that management was wrong about where Bloom’s game was at given his development path.

Only in the sense that we didn't get a bonified NHler out of piece of a garbage. I wouldn't say they were wrong at all. Not every prospect makes the big leagues.

To me 3M seems kind of standard for a 4/5 tweener with an 88M cap, but the issue is the length of the contract and his age/decline at this point in his career. And I imagine most fans are sour he didn't take a discount after having been massively overpaid for the previous 5 years.

It obviously doesn't help that Soucy has been uncharacteristically bad this season as well. If he was playing like the steady, reliable defender he was last season then Myers probably also wouldn't be as bad.

But yes, both need to be better, and neither of them can be "running" a d-pair right now. I do wonder with Myers if his knee is fully recovered or if he's still just playing through the pain. He's on the older side, has a ton of mileage on his body (1000+ games), and taller athletes tend to have more knee problems later in their careers

Do you use any extensions like privacy badger or duckduckgo? They can block twitter embeds unless you change their settings to allow it.

Firefox might also block them with Tracking Protection set to "Strict".

Oh, I know why it doesn’t work. I prefer to blame @Vector

But also like if twitter chooses to make the whole site not load if I use any type of adblocker, and also the owner is a huge dipshit, I’m just going to stop using the site rather than changing my behaviour to suit them.
