Honestly Myers at 3 isnt bad if hes #4 at best, hes more of a #5 but he definitely cannot carry a line by himself
Myers simply isn't a 3-4 pairing d-man. The only guy who thought so was Jimbo, who got him from the Jets and then gave him a ridiculous $6m contract for six years.

But in his previous stops in Buffalo and Winnipeg, every time they tried to move him up in the defensive pairings, it basically flopped. So it's hardly a shock that at 34, he can't carry a top four defensive pairing with the Canucks. Last night he was far and away the CORSI chump.

So the Canucks could blow the wad and acquire another rental. But flushing draft picks for d-men who can get you through another season, isn't a long term solution.

They're probably going to have to wait on D-Petey and Wilander--their 3-4 pairing of the future.

I expect Allvin will upgrade the blueline and that was my assumption from before the season. But...yeah...the backend looks ugly. Brannstrom and Lankinen falling Allvin's lap bought a flawed roster a ton of breathing room.

I'm watching Marcus Pettersson right now on Sportsnet, as the Pens are now down 0-2 against the lowly Columbus Blue Jackets.

Sorry.....but in this game, he's looking like a slightly smaller version of Tyler Myers. Fabbro is actually in the lineup for Columbus, and isn't looking bad. Maybe Allvin could have acquired him from the Preds before he ended up on waivers.

At 3M Myers is really paid like a 3rd pair guy that can take some top4 minutes when the situation calls for it or when he gets like a legit 1st pairing guy to carry him.

I think the solution is to go big game hunting, get a 1st pairing level LD and pair him with Myers so we can bump Soucy down and have like Soucy - Brannstrom / Willander.

Pettersson is 11-2 Corsi F/A, and 6-1 Fenwick F/A. The Pens suck but he's having a good game, it's just impossible to tell because the Pens are complete shit.

Soucy, Heinen have trade protection

Forbort wouldnt be super easy

Others we want to keep
They don’t have full NTC, shouldn’t be easy to move still.

GMs are like freaking dinosaurs, if Riley Stillman can be moved with an asset coming back, Forbort is 100% moveable unless he suffers some crazy injury.

alvin summary.jpg

i took a screenshot from twitter. which was interesting. canuckssummaries is the page.

Patrik Allvin has made 24 trades as GM. 15 of them were not at the deadline. Of these trades Sun, Tues, Wed, and Thurs are the most common 3 trades each. Fri has 2 and Mon has 1. No trades on a Sat. 9 trades after 3pm and 6 before. 7 of the last 8 trades were after 3pm.

People need to stop freaking out lol
If the team doesn't right itself, you guys honestly think Allvin will just sit on the roster? He's going to be trading players left and right, even the new ones that he has just signed and they are all pretty tradeable. There is a lot of flexibility on this roster, it's not like we are locked in and we are stuck with the team for good or for worse.

Super easy to trade

Soucy - 3.25 x2
Suter - 1.6 x 1
Heinen - 2.25 x 2
Sherwood - 1.25 x 2
Bluegar - 1.8 x 2
Forbort - 1.5 x 1
Lankinen - .875 x 1

Mor expensive but still easy

Boeser - 6.65 x 1
Garland - 4.95 x 2
sherwood keep. heinen can go. forbort as well. soucy

vegas is apparently extending mcnabb so that probably means hague is available for the right price. i don't think hague is really a top 4 defender but he's probably better than all but two of the canucks current defenders and he's big enough for tocchet/foote to play while still being able to move the puck
plus he can fight if needed.

That’s my twitter account! I posted the same info one page earlier. ;)
wow didnt know. your the man for making those summaries who dont have time to listen to half hr podcast. makes our life easier.

too bad you cant trade myers..

On the cusp of Jirieck, how much? Boeser plus a late pick. They need more veteran scoring. Maybe Garland + a late pick. I am sure they want a #1

Canucks need cap space, they need RHD, they need youth, they need an upgrade for depth.

He would be an upgrade on Juulsen, Freidman, Brannstrom maybe even Myers or Soucy.
Untapped potential, just a player trapped behind a set defence group.

Canucks forward group would be way more effective if they didn’t have to overcompensate for a defensive core that can’t successfully pressure at the blue line and retrieve and get pucks out more consistently. Push Soucy and Myers to the bottom pair and acquire two top four defenseman and this team will win a cup. Easier said than done.

Even if we added Jiricek we can't use him. Like it or not, the right side is set. Hronek/Myers/Willander is the RD for the next 2-3 years.

Jiricek should be the priority until that situation is resolved, regardless of current organizational depth.

My issue with Jiricek is that he doesn’t really solve any issues with the club for this season. Long term I believe he’d be a great acquisition but I don’t see the coaching staff playing him any more than Evason.

Maybe as a total overhaul where it’s something like Pettersson-Jiricek. Then that makes sense.

i don't think there's any deal they can make that doesn't involve willander going the other way

And that would be a disaster. The difference in their mobility in skating is massive and a big flag on Jiricek's name.

i'm not saying it would be a good trade but a mid/late first, raty and kudryavtsev isn't going to get it done. columbus are going to want a comparable prospect in return
