This is an excellent post. Bravo. Such a huge player for the team and Coach Wilson loves him. Really sucks the missed games with suspensions and injury. I think that injury has held him back more than we think. Hopefully he can turn things around production wise in the second half of the season. But who doesn’t want a kid like that, who stands up for his teammates time and time again on their team. I bet if you ask the players he’s one of the most like kids on the team. That sequence with Gowan getting hit on the numbers, McCallum going to his defense, Bulldogs scoring tying goal while McCallum instigates a fight with Crombie the guy who hit Gowan .......results in McCallum being suspended. First off all Crombie should have been penalized but I think Gowan may have embellished a bit so the refs even after a review didn't call it. That was a worst case scenario for the Petes all in one play in a game that otherwise was one of their best games of the season.
I disagree about the comments here about McCallum and don't like it when fans refer to goal production as one of the key indicators of success. McCallum is exactly the kind of player Rob Wilson and Petes fans like - fearless, feisty muckrakers and we get what we ask for. If we are to be critical at anyone on the team, we ought to point fingers at the people who created this sort of team (Oake, WIlson) as a result the Petes are one of the most physical teams in the league. I for one love the tight-checking physical style of play of the Petes. Only problem is, is that they are a very young team and most of the skilled players are 2-3 years away from their prime at this level.
The good news is that the Petes are getting better every game and sticking to the system Wilson wants. While McCallum has been suspended two or three times now, he is playing the old-school way and given the league's low tolerance for this stuff, it might not be fair to expect him to stick up for his teammates and go in the corners fearlessly. But that is the kind of player he is. Strohack is an example of a player who has changed his game and is taking fewer penalties. McCallum can do the hockey fundamentals well (skates fast, sets up goals, kills penalties). Perhaps a different coaching approach might have him avoid the penalty box more often and be more productive.

Truthfully not too sure what happened! I saw a tweet on the OHL twitter that said Braydon McCallum has received a 1 game suspension due to the exceeding of instigator penalties. I had never heard of that suspension before but once I saw it I posted it on here. My badThis isn't listed with the media notes and I don't see the league having posted it anywhere. Was it confirmed somewhere else?

It depends on your definition of a blowout. Four games have been lost by four or more (Games 1-KGN, 2-NB, 7-OS and 24-LDN). Only shutout 3 times, one being a 1-0 game, the others being listed previously.Pete’s are a wagon now holy moly
in all seriousness though. They’re not THAT bad. I know they had a horrible start but ever since those 2 back to back Oshawa games where they were both close. They probably haven’t had too many teams blow them out since- they hang around in most games. IMO not the worst team in the OHL despite what the record says
It is a suspension that I've seen before, I just didn't see it so wasn't sure, I had someone at the game mention they thought he was suspended as well so they may have posted about it and then decided to overturn it. Very true. They're not a good team, but the first 20 games or so they had some bad luck. They realistically should have had 5 or 6 wins. If it wasn't for the awful start, the 8th playoff spot would still be in play. But they should be half decent the rest of the way.Pete’s are a wagon now holy moly

The Petes are a much improved team of late. I think the addition of Gavin Bryant has helped. He brings leadership and work ethic and hopefully starts contributing on a consistence basis. The scoring has been a team effort with goals coming from multiple sources. The defence is improved from earlier in the season. But the biggest boast has been the return of Easton Rye. I think he may be our starting goaltender going forward. I think the Petes will make some noise in the second half of the season and while a playoff is unlikely it could happen if Peterborough has a strong second half and a couple rebuilding teams have a second half like the Petes had last season.Pete’s are a wagon now holy moly

I agree. Although Bryant isn’t filling the net he is clearly providing the Pete’s with some leadership and experience that goes on beyond the hockey rink. The Petes are a much improved team of late. My thinking is they may trade Zach Bowen and go with Easton Rye and Masen Johnston as their two goaltenders.I agree. Although Bryant isn’t filling the net he is clearly providing the Pete’s with some leadership and experience that goes on beyond the hockey rink.
With Rye looking like he has a future in this league I wonder what happens with zach bowen. 19 and a decent goalie but Pete’s are in a tough spot deciding between those two as the goalie of the future.
Makes sense. Rye and Johnson fit the team mold better for the future. I wonder if a team like Erie or Oshawa trades for Bowen as a backup goalie? My thinking is they may trade Zach Bowen and go with Easton Rye and Masen Johnston as their two goaltenders.
I think the the Petes could get a 2nd and a 5th or a 3rd and a 4th for him. The issue with Zach Bowen is he wants to be a starting goaltender and I doubt he will be willing to go to a team where he will be only a backup goaltender. This could be a problem in trying to deal him.Makes sense. Rye and Johnson fit the team mold better for the future. I wonder if a team like Erie or Oshawa trades for Bowen as a backup goalie?
I know Oshawa is a huge rival obviously but if they paid a good price for him and went for their inevitable run it could be a good trade for both teams.
Same sort of situation with Vaccari in Kingston IMO. Betts is a 16 year old goalie and super talented and in the games I’ve seen he looks just as good as Vaccari but is 3 years younger. May be time to move on.
True. I wonder if he would go to a team like Erie or Oshawa though and he would be the starter the following year and then take the NCAA route to prolong his hockey career and his hopes of one day becoming a pro.I think the the Petes could get a 2nd and a 5th or a 3rd and a 4th for him. Exactly. McCallum is an 06. Has 2 1/2 years left. Got hurt early and takes time to come back 100% from that injury. Those that suggest trading him are off. This guy is going to be your overage in year going for it.This is an excellent post. Bravo. Such a huge player for the team and Coach Wilson loves him. Brampton could use a backup goalie behind IvankovicMy thinking is they may trade Zach Bowen and go with Easton Rye and Masen Johnston as their two goaltenders.
I’m thinking a laundry issue lolHey, are y’all jerseys meant to be pink this year? Or was there some sort of error because when they visited the bulldogs they looked very pink and I was confused.
Well yes goals win games but penalties often create goals for the other team.....which was what I was aiming at .....if McCallum pivoted his game a little away from being policeman to his other strengths , the goals (and assists) will come. The easy response to you NV is that any Coach will tell you, especially Wilson, that you need snipers, muckrakers and good defense to win hockey games all for equally valid reasons. Sometimes you get all in one player and I think McCallum can become that Tucker Robertson type player.Re: the bolded, I don't know where to begin. Goal production is literally THE most important thing. McCallum as a guy who scored 18 goals and had 41 points last season is expected to be and has to be more productive.
In terms of fans wanting "fearless, feisty, muckrackers"... sure here or there but what I really want is guys who can put the puck in the net. I'll take Cameron Mann over Dan Buccella. Give me Nick Robertson over John Parker-Jones.
The hope with a guy like McCallum is that he can be that rare combination who is a productive offensive player and brings that physical edge - say Tucker Robertson as a recent example but the offense needs to be there.
And I've been McCallum's biggest defender on here but it's ALL contingent on him being a guy who creates and contributes offensively. There are countless guys who can indiscriminately fight and stand up for their teammates, what makes him such a potentially valuable piece for the Petes is if he brings that physical edge and produces GOALS and offense.
No chance they get a 2nd for Bowen and I doubt they get a 3rd and 4th together eitherI think the the Petes could get a 2nd and a 5th or a 3rd and a 4th for him. Definitely don’t want to discount Bryant coming in but the team was starting to actually play as one around when he was brought in. I think him coming in for the aforementioned reasons and the end of the OA debacle to solidify who was going to be here settled everyone in. Rye being back and going is a huge boost, he’s having the time of his life out there. He’s been overly patient for his chance and while it’s unfortunate that it’s taking an injury for him to get the chance to be a starter he’s certainly showing that he isn’t out of place. Having more certainty of who you’re playing with and good, solid, consistent performance from your goaltending seems to have settled everyone down a little and gotten things back on track. Not expecting a hard run or anything, there’s gonna be rough patches still, but decently happy looking at the team right now.The Petes are a much improved team of late. Find me a goalie that doesn’t want to be a starter and you’ve found a goalie that likely won’t last in the league, they all *want* to be starters. The issue with Zach Bowen is he wants to be a starting goaltender and I doubt he will be willing to go to a team where he will be only a backup goaltender.
I’ll be happy with a 5thBowen would have almost zero trade value. He's in his last year and he's been outplayed by every goalie he's ever been in a tandem with. Sure maybe he's a backup upgrade somewhere but no one's paying a 2nd (lol), 3rd or even 4th round pick for that, let alone two of those in combo.
