I'm sure it is a team building thing to act like a badge for making it to each round.
2 stripe 2nd round
My Celtic, Germanic, and Viking indigenous ancestors all wore paint to go to war. I think the 67s started this in 2001, as you say, as a team-building exercise.

Good road tonight Peterborough. A bounce here and there and it might have been a different outcome wise. Funny cause I give Peterborough the overall edge in period 1 and 2 while the 67's stepped up in the 3rd. Ottawa not inspired to play until the 3rd where they started to really skate and move the puck. Did anyone think that buzzer beater goal was in? Camera angles were atrocious but hard to tell TBH. Never effected the outcome of the game though. I am expecting Ottawa to play much better next game.

Just a little more discussion on Avon and the 3rd line.
I really expect Avon to be the X-factor that puts the Petes over the top vs Ottawa.
He gets lots of PP and PK time so it's not like he's "stuck" on the 3rd line.

IMO having him on the 3rd line means that he will be able to feast on the 67s young 3rd D pairing of Mews & Marelli.
Cameron definitely won't want those two on the ice against Lockhart/Beck/Stillman or Othmann/Robertson/Hayes so his choice, when he can match the lines at home, will be to play them against Avon/Dubois/Melee. Avon's speed should give these two guys all they can handle.

I expect the Petes to earn a hard fought split in Ottawa this weekend.
Also, you should expect to see more face washes than you would see at a daycare in June when it's popsicle time :cf:
Lol agree

Agree thought the game was there for the taking and Cameron was scared silly

don’t care grow up , I feel its disrespectful to Indigenous peoples if a player is indigenouse. No problem with it! Teams changing clubs names, have always hated the chants is Atlanta Braves and Kansas City Chiefs , come on?

Thought the Petes were better team for huge stretches of the game. A breakdown on a face off cost us the game. Petes played a good road game. The key to this series is discipline, we didn’t take poor penalties in game one. Stay up boys , Ottawa got a break in game one, bear down and get the next one! GoPetesGo

Get over it, pal. I don't care, either.

Forget about the disrespect, it just looks dumb

Great game by the Petes who can play with the 67s no doubt. The only glaring difference to me between the teams is that the Petes defense allows Ottawa to enter zone time and time again. Our D back up in to their own goalie allowing 67s to enter and set up, Going the other way, when the Petes carry the puck into 67s end, the 67s challenge the puck carrier between the red and blue line or just inside their blue line. This earlier challenge is working for Ottawa. Hopefully the Petes coaches adjust for Game 2.

I don't remember seeing where Indigenous people have a copyright or own a monopoly on face painting?? Face painting has been done for years by various cultures of different races. Some have been associated with culture and a necessity for hunting dated back centuries ago while sadly the practice was used to mock individuals of certain races on stage. It's also been done by certain Canadian politicians like Justin Trudeau who for some reason still has a job amongst the other stupid things he has done. Now I am a huge Jays fan and may I point out that a lot of the Toronto players wear paint when they are in the outfield. Namely Kevin Kiermaier and Springer, Chapman and Bo. So are you going to ask them to remove their paint as well? Football payers also wear it. Hey if the 67's players wear paint as it's a tradition for the team I really have no issue with it. Looks stupid, I can think of far more things done in sports that classify as "stupid"

Agreed. Was a fine line last night. The Petes need to adjust their strategy but I am sure the 67's will play more consistent as they had too lapses last night for my liking..

Athletes put black under their eyes to reduce glare from sun or lights. The 67s players are doing it under one eye only, probably as a team bonding thing. I will defer to to any indigenous people here for their comments on the black face marks as being cultural appropriation or not. I get what snipes is saying , the face paint is a thing that some indigenous people might find a bit much or they might just laugh at it, I don't know.

I am an Indigenous female.. Born and raised on my reserve-
I know some would be offended but I personally am not offended

Now Back to hockey -I think we “won” that game.

Let’s not forget these are the Ottawa 67s-this is a super talented team -almost a fantasy team. They are so dominant and so superior in talent -I was worried how we’d do -

Think about it -we were in their barn, their home and we didn’t back down. I was shocked!

Avon got a breakaway and scored-I was shocked Ottawa’s defence let that happen.

We neutralized their PP we had an effective PK-that was shocking too

And my biggest shock was -it seems like those 67s were unprepared for being checked

I thought the Petes played a really good road game through two periods. Particularly I thought they carried the play in the 2nd and out-chanced the 67s in that period, with the 67s looking scrambled for most of the 2nd. The Petes deserved to go into the 3rd tied-up. The most important thing for me was I wanted to see how the 67s reacted in the 3rd after the very late goal to end the 2nd, and I was pleased to see them come out strong to start the 3rd and I like how the 67s controlled the play for much of the period, ultimately being rewarded late with the Beck GWG of the faceoff. If the 67s can find that level of play earlier in game 2, I think it’ll really put the Petes on the defensive. If they can find that level of play consistently, the Petes could be in real trouble.

The 67s made some glaring mistakes defensively on the two Petes goals and they need to tighten up. We all thought Matier struggled defensively for much of the game, which is unusual for him. Constantini too. Mintyukov was outstanding, and our rookie D - particularly Marrelli - were very strong. I thought we handled the Petes’ forecheck quite well actually, so I’ll disagree on that one point. Aside from the pressure over several shifts in the 2nd, the Petes couldn’t really get much going on offensively in the 1st or 3rd and our transition game was quite strong.

Simpson let in one softie, and another he probably should have had. On the other hand, he made an incredible (and potentially game saving) save in the 1st on Beck. Donoso was quite good.

I don't disagree...but the question is: when will the Petes be able to actually beat them? There were at least a couple of regular season games (at home in PTBO) where the game was very close but the 67's won. It's fine to say these things if the team is young, up and coming, etc. But this team is built to win this year. Eventually they'll have to find a way to actually beat Ottawa. Until they do that, any talk of "being right there" etc (not directed at you exclusively. I've said the same, and I've heard/read the quotes from players/coaches) doesn't mean anything. They have to find a way to actually win the game.

The Petes played a solid road game that they could have won.
Hayes and Othmann both had great chances from the slot in the 3rd. If they score it changes everything.
For the record, I know of no one who picked the Petes to sweep the 67s so this is not a shocking start to the series.
At this point I think the Petes have Ottawa right where they want them.:D
Same effort, stay physical especially against Mews/Marelli to create turnovers, stay disciplined and pick up the split!
