Peterborough Petes 2022-23 Season Thread (Part 3)

Well based off an Owen Beck article in the Peterborough Examiner from a couple days ago, he wants to be here. As far as Avery Hayes is concerned, I swear his smile gets bigger and bigger every goal of his own or a teamates. Thursday's home game against Mississauga showed a true team celebrating and feeding off each other. Tensions are definitely running high, no questions there, and of course everyone you know is just going to conveniently jump to the "they don't want to be here" schtick. I know you've got your 'sources' and will believe what you want to believe but let's take a step back here and take that shit somewhere else. Not putting up with that BS.

I said take it with a grain of salt. I specifically said it was second hand. It was a source I trust but who he heard it from wasn’t close enough for me to take it as gospel. I was specifically told the new players don’t want to be there. That seems like an odd statement for it to be a fabrication. On top of that, I heard something somewhat similar from another person who has a good friend who is a billet in the league (not Ottawa). Third hand but smoke from two sources saying similar things.

HOWEVER

It would explain a lot. I mean, is it the players underachieve because they are happy there and the coach is just garbage and doesn’t give them a chance to win because of how he wants them to play? Or are they underachieving because they aren’t happy and lack motivation? Pick one. This Petes team is far too talented to be simply average. I think most everyone tagged this team for around 90+ points this season. Well below expectations.

You can choose to ignore if you wish. That’s fine. Just telling you what I heard. I can’t confirm directly so I’m not yelling it from the rooftops As gospel and stated as such.

Definitely a depleted and sick line up today. Should still be a win

Hard to believe we are down to the final week of the regular season and not an easy way to end things. Ottawa Thursday, Friday and Mississauga Saturday. This is it here folks, the fate of the Petes season is in their hands

The rest of the reg season doesnt really matter except for getting ready for the playoffs. Either way there going to play a similar team in roudn 1 with Hamilton, Sudbury or Sauga and then Ottawa in round 2

Lol yeah you tell him , hes always on here stirring the pot , bye bye

Here we go.....dress rehearsal for the playoffs.
On D: Zanetti out........McCoy and Spearing back
Up front : Avon back

Forward lines in a blender, but it makes sense.
- Two new wingers (Othmann & Hayes) go with the top center, the player who consistently raises the level of his linemates (Tucker Robertson)
- New center who has been struggling (Beck) gets local wingers who played together in their youth........I give you Lightning (Avon) and Thunder (Stillman)

I'm hoping that the space created for Beck with Avon's speed and Stillman's physicality will help him recapture his mojo.

- Lockhart may be disappointed moving to the 3rd line but I'm hoping he rises to the challenge and makes that line more difficult to play against....they don't have to score, they just need to keep pucks out of their own net

Scores don't matter this weekend boys.
It's all about the way you play and what last minute changes need to be made between dress rehearsal and opening night!

At this point only Mississauga can get home ice over the Petes. May come down to the Saturday game and the Petes will be tired no doubt

Mike Oke hockey

Does Dubois get games for this one? He definitely didn’t do it on purpose. He wasn’t looking int he direction of the goalie. But, it is a clear head hit with injury. The way the League has been calling these, I wouldn’t be surprised….

I actually liked tonight’s effort.

I thought we played hard and stayed with them -let’s not forget they are the MIGHTY Ottawa 67’s-and yet I feel like we stayed with them .

Even though everyone had a new line mate everyone stepped up and played well.

Ottawa is tops in everything we are not tops in anything and yet we were able to kill off penalty after penalty.

It was not the blow out I was expecting

I was actually impressed by our lads-I love the work ethic tonight.

Owen Beck was pure heart and soul effort

Just about two months ago there were a handful of posters on this board that suggested the Petes offence was unstoppable, elite. The top 2 lines would roll through the league. Times change quick. And, to be fair, I am not pointing to you either. You’ve been level headed through this whole season.

I will say that I disagree about your assertion tonight. For some strange reason, there seems to be no real fight in this dog. For the life of me, I don’t know why. Everyone is happy and the team camaraderie is at a high. You’d think they’d be able to muster more fight. This may seem like it is tongue in cheek but the reality is, I don’t know why this team is so average. The only thing I can put my finger on is drive. They don‘t seem to have a Motor. They give up easy. They play lazy hockey a lot of times which results in the lazy penalties taken tonight because they weren’t moving their feet.

This team is far better than their results looking at it from a piece by piece perspective on paper. I know it happens to some teams but this one I don’t understand. When the flow is going their way, they seem to have more drive. They ride high with positive momentum. When they get pushed back on, they don’t seem to push through with a higher level of effort. They seem to back off and let the play come to them. Good teams will take advantage of that.

The Petes need to set the pace and not stop pushing….ever.

Of course he will as if you don't know, the OHL officials favour teams with the best record. Ottawa has had several reckless dangerous hits from behind all season and should have been suspended but only receive 2 minute penalties? The league says the want these hits out of the game? Then why are the rules not enforced evenly across the league? Pinelli’s reckless dirty hit should have been a major penalty and suspension , but he got you guessed it 2 minutes? The game in playoffs is won and lost on power plays. Its pretty evident who wins series by looking closely at pim. They decide most games, the rest is just the breaks a bad or good bounce here or their.

Ottawa is more disciplined than the Petes

Where is the video on Pinellis reckless dirty hit from behind on Othmann? Lol

Lmao go away

If I’m the Petes I draft somebody who won’t report in round 1 for the compensation pick and then draft every player you can from that U16 Petes team. Start the rebuild around some good local players and two first rounders the year following that
