My heart breaks for these kids.
I was always a big Rob Wilson fan -I liked the teams he assembled and their style of play.

Not a fan anymore -the abuse he hurls at these kids is shameful. Seems he is particularly abusive towards Lockhart who plays his heart out every shift.
I feel obligated to stomp down to that bench and say something to Rob Wilson -if I saw that degree of abuse in the real world I would feel compelled to defend the kid

After tonight I am done with Rob Wilson.

I don’t actually know for a fact if Wilson is particularly abusive towards Lockhart -it just seems he focuses his tirades on Lockhart -maybe he doesn’t -I don’t know

I sit close to the bench -I don’t sit ON the bench

But for what I can see , I find his abusive behaviour towards these kids unconscionable

Interesting. From where I sit I can't see the bench that well.

I mean, you don’t know for sure though. My youngest daughter will tell you straight up she wants a coach that’s hard-nosed that pushes her, gets in her face and demands a lot. She doesn’t get rattled if you’re yelling and screaming at her, doesn’t take it personal and for whatever reason she feels that’s what extracts the most out of her and motivates her. Maybe Lockhart is that guy? Coach knows it and Lockhart is ok with it? My oldest daughter? I have to approach with kid gloves. Always be positive and discuss things with her calmly. That’s how I extract the most out of her. I’d assume most kids on the bench are more like that but you never know the real situation on the bench/locker room. Or Wilson could just be a POS.

I would agree with this. I coached across a number of levels and age groups - and you can't be the same way with everyone on the team. Some guys need to carrot others need the switch (stick ) - so just need to be yelled at and challenged in front of others. The world today has changed for coaches too - so they can't get away with nearly as much as they could before.

I know right ! I totally agree with you -

That’s the thing -I am the type of person that needs high pressure to get the job done -my sister is totally the opposite.

I know differing styles work for different people. Some peole
Need that kick in the butt and others need a hug.

But it’s hard to watch that “abuse” (if it is actually abuse) directed towards a kid.
I sit so close to the bench it detracts from the game for me bc I sit there feeling so sorry for those kids -but I agree with your
Point maybe these kids need that kind of treatment to get motivated.

I just feel that this shouting and carrying on By Rob Wilson is not working because we are not winning . But then again Rob Wilson knows these kids and I do not -it just doesn’t seem to be working.

Your natural instinct is always to protect a kid

This does not suprise me for years I sat behind the visitors bench over the years heard many many coaches verbally abusing targeted players on their own teams. Not a fan of any coach that has to result to this type of tactic. Good coaches coach poor coaches loose their patience and loose control how can this ever help a player?

Who hired the coach? I get that hes feeling pressure to win, but dont blame the players, they are doing their best! Look at your roster their are flaws and weaknesses in every roster in every sport. Your GM builds the team, makes additions and subtractions to your teams. Some good , some bad. The GM has to make adjustments to roster every season to improve a team. The Coach has to assess each game, each Period to see who is playing well. In game adjustments are made in intermissions. Tough jobs, yes but some Coaches and some GMs do better jobs than others.

Does anyone pn this thread really know how wilson acts on the bench? Is he loud, vulgar abusive? Please tell me. I don't pretend to know.

People we all need to chill out and support out team and stop blaming our individual players for losses and at games if you cant say something positive just shut your pie hole!

Exactly it. This is what I had said last Friday when we were in Niagara and it still remains the same today
The last time we played at the Meridian Centre for an important game in March was the last game before Covid cancelled the 2019-2020 season and the Petes won 12-1. This years teams is loaded and as much as there have been some ups and downs, this is the best chance we are going to have. The buzz around this team is real and as a city we need to continue to support and cheer on these boys to the very end. Yes it has been challenging, but nothing is easy, especially winning in this league. The '22/23 Petes have as much talent as anyone and sure they have not clicked or played as well as we would have thought, but we all need to keep the passion and the burning desire to win as we head down to the wire and these final 11 games. Finish strong and and be ready for playoff hockey because we all bleed maroon through thick and thin and we have to support and trust the plan and will to win. Myself and many others still believe this team has a chance to be the last team standing and until they are eliminated these winning thoughts will never stop. These players, coaches and everyone want to win, that is why they play. It's go time. No one said this was going to be easy, Go Petes Go!

Coach Wilson is so good at driving trucks. He's driven trucks for the last few years and gotten more out of those trucks than anyone could hope for.

This year, Oke brought in a race car, then another, then two more, then one more for good measure.

Wilson doesn't know how to drive race cars, so he keeps driving them like trucks and can't figure out why they're not performing like the other trucks he's driven in the past.

Anyway. Petes won tonight but it was closer than it needed to be. Again.

Maybe there is too many race cars that want to be #1 and no one wants to drive the trucks that plow the road for those race cars to ride? You have Robertson that does both.

There is some incredible talent on this team, but you take (2) five on three goals out of that game and the Pete’s in my opinion would have buckled and lost back to back games to a team fighting to find a point. I really don’t understand the Pete’s, they should be killing everyone but are too concerned chasing the smallest guy on the ice to make the big hit. I think they will be extremely lucky to get out of the first round.

The Petes are T3-4 for goals allowed. Chasing is probably not a serious issue.
However, it appears that shooting percentage might be. I have not seen the majority of Petes games, but in the games I have seen the Petes get 40-60 shots most of which are a bit outside of the danger zone.

Agree too many give aways in our own zone grade A scoring chances in prime scoring areas way way too often

Go Petes Go

I agree with this for sure. The Petes do not give up a lot of goals. That usually is a strong measuring stick for playoff success. They have the capability of scoring. The Petes will hook up with Hamilton in Round one. It is almost a certainty now. The Petes should handle Hamilton well.

It will be tight but the Petes have a small chance of staying below 200 goals against this season. That would be a red circle result for any team. Not many teams finish under 200 goals against. Maybe 2-3 per season.

Haven't seen the Petes play since they acquired Avery Hayes. Tough to judge a 20-year-old solely on numbers.

Know he was in the Leafs' development after last year's Memorial Cup run.

How has he fit and does he get a training camp invite this summer?

IMO Hayes will definitely get an invite. NHL teams are often scrambling to fill their rookie camp rosters so Hayes seems like a no brainer. A top goal scorer the last two years and despite his size he plays an aggressive style and wins more puck battles than he loses. Hayes uses his skill set to create offensive chances when he’s on the ice.

He should not be judged on his numbers with the Petes. He played on a Bulldogs team for the last season and a half where he was on the definitive #1 line and #1 PP. He comes to the Petes where he not only has to adjust to new systems and new teammates but he is getting a little less ice time as well. With 1a and 1b lines and PP units in Peterborough it’s reasonable that his numbers are down slightly.

I have been thinking about this for like 2 weeks now and think our team is they type of team that only performs under incredible stress.

We look brilliant in the big huge games against super tough opponents -but otherwise we are meh-

Maybe we need that pressure to perform -which means we need the pressure of the playoffs to perform

6-9-1 on the season against the top three teams in each conference. Wins and losses don’t tell the whole story of course but a significant losing record against the top 6 teams, on the surface, wouldn’t suggest the Petes take those games any more serious than others.

I know you are trying to find a silver lining and of course overall effort regardless of outcome is definitely a silver lining but that needs to translate into wins at some point. Petes are getting close to the playoffs and have three big games remaining on the schedule. They gotta bury the weaker teams and win at least two of those bigger games heading into the playoffs. They have to position themselves mentally to get into a head space that suggestst hey are with the top 3 and not part of the second pack.

Problem might be too many race cars and not enough mechanics. Because when Wilson decides to drive a particular race car(S) the other Lamborghini‘S are jealous and rusting in the garage. Potential buyers of said race cars can’t see them perform and they seize up, back fire and don’t perform the way they would if they were driven more often. Just an opinion from a Classic car lover from the North.

That seems plausible, but it appears as though 7 of the Petes forwards see 18-22 minutes TOI each game.
