I mean if that was happening tonight, Othmann's right. Here are the comments

---

Brennan Othmann, who fired nine shots on Lennox, wasn’t as concerned by Lennox’s gesture as he was from some fans following the game.

“That’s Lenny for you,” said Othmann. “He gets fired up and is passionate about the game. I have to get this off my chest. Our fans are so passionate and we’re so passionate for our fans but it brings us down and brings me down a lot, too, when we see fans doing gestures to us saying we suck after the game

“I was more disappointed about that than the loss itself. I thought we dominated the game… It blows my mind. We’re still so young, we’re 19 and 20 years old. This city has such a buzz around it and we have such a good team and we can’t win every single game.”

---

I swear half the fans around me go to cheer against the Petes. They never have anything positive to say. Every pass is awful, the power play is a disgrace, the new guys are all terrible. I think a lot of people feel some sort of superiority that they could do better? Or maybe it's just a defense mechanism so there's no hurt when they do eventually lose.

I don't get it or excuse it though. You're supposed to be there to cheer for the team, so cheer for the f***ing team. And I'm painting with a broad brush. The row in front of me is mostly amazing. But the season ticket holders in my row have gone for 30+ years (as have I) and honestly it seems like they hate the team.

And I am definitely very critical too. I just try to direct it towards the adults (coaches, GM) rather than the teenagers.

I didn't see it tonight, I saw more people leaving early.

I thought Othmann was great tonight fwiw, expectations are high and production for the new additions in general hasn't been but I thought he was making smart plays all night long. Not surprised about the Lennox comments from him either, seemed clear they were buddies. He waved off a Petes player going at him early in the game. He also called off a Petes player who was about to lose his mind when Petes were already getting a PP. I thought he played smart and team oriented tonight.

He's not playing tomorrow night after 59 shots tonight lol
He's probably getting a multi game suspension. Gun violence isn't something you joke about in 2023.

Edit - they only gave him a 2 minute misconduct, I thought it was a 10. I still hate the gun thing though. It was directed towards the Petes not at a glove or the air a la Selanne. Earlier this year Othmann got a 10 minute misconduct for looking at the bench too long. Imagine if he pointed his stick at them and cocked it? Just would like them to close the door on this type of thing right away (and there's precedent with the throat slash gesture) but whatever, move on Lennox was great and in the moment.

I definitely agree with @NorthernVoice and his analysis of Othmann - solid game for him, smart decisions all night.

If the Petes play that way in games going forward they will have a chance to win any game they play in. Three posts/cross bars.....games like that are going to happen.

The Petes missed Chase Stillman last night. IMO that was his type of game.....he tends to wreak havoc in the offensive end especially around the net. He's not usually the guy to make a slick play with the puck but he battles so hard that he creates room and bounces by pressuring and being physical with opposing players. The Petes needed just a little more of that.

btw......last night's game doesn't matter

Hit the road boys......it will be good to get out of town for a couple of days.

Thoughts from the game:

Not much you can do when Lennox is playing like that. Sometimes that will happen. A 59 save shutout is pretty impressive.

I don't care too much about the celebration at the end. A little dumb, sure, but these are still kids. No doubt after a shutout like that, you'll be pretty pumped up.

I personally didn't hear any Petes fans booing or harassing the Petes, but if they were, that's disappointing. Especially after a game like that, where realistically the Petes would win 4 or 5-2 unless the goalie was on fire, like he was.

It seems like Avon could have 40 goals already with the number of chances he gets. I don't know if it's bad luck or what, but it seems like every game he has at least one breakaway (or near breakaway) that doesn't result in a goal. Strange. It just seems like, odds/probability wise, at least a few more of those chances would result in goals.

Hopefully they bounce back and pick up 4 points this weekend, as it's still really tight among the Petes, Steelheads and Bulldogs. And I really want them to have home ice in round one.

The last time we played at the Meridian Centre for an important game in March was the last game before Covid cancelled the 2019-2020 season and the Petes won 12-1. This years teams is loaded and as much as there have been some ups and downs, this is the best chance we are going to have. The buzz around this team is real and as a city we need to continue to support and cheer on these boys to the very end. Yes it has been challenging, but nothing is easy, especially winning in this league. The '22/23 Petes have as much talent as anyone and sure they have not clicked or played as well as we would have thought, but we all need to keep the passion and the burning desire to win as we head down to the wire and these final 11 games. Finish strong and and be ready for playoff hockey because we all bleed maroon through thick and thin and we have to support and trust the plan and will to win. Myself and many others still believe this team has a chance to be the last team standing and until they are eliminated these winning thoughts will never stop. These players, coaches and everyone want to win, that is why they play. It's go time. No one said this was going to be easy, Go Petes Go!

It was the 30th anniversary of Selanne doing the gun celly yesterday. Its not that deep. Was it dumb? Eh thats up for debate. When your own player had worse stuff to say about his own fan base then that I think you need to readjust your priorities

It wasn’t the first goal down thing for Lennox. I think he got a lot of attention for it during the 2018-19 playoffs

Prosvetov did the net thing after shutouts that year. Lennox got it from him and did it this year for the first time. Askarov for Nashville does it in the AHL as well.

I mostly agree but Selanne didn't direct his at anyone, I just don't like that but it's fine.

Like bcspragu said, the tipping the net is something that Lennox does after shutouts and I wouldn't have a problem with another goaltender doing it to us if we didn't score... The gun thing was new and I'm sure the Spirit will make that a one and done celebration. It was harmless in the heat of the moment but it's not in the best taste since we've had 2 high profile gun incidents (Oxford HS and Michigan State) in the state so I'm very confident that the Spirit will squash it and I can even see them sending an apology to the Petes.

Solid effort by the Petes against a younger weaker opponent. Nice to see Sztuska get the shutout. Outshot the IceDogs 66 to 23!
The 7man D unit has played well in recent games and the back pressure from forwards hustling back into the Petes zone has resulted in less offensive attacks becoming too dangerous. All of the D have made improvements when it comes to making quick transitions when they get possession of the puck in the D zone.
It was Niagara but a solid team effort by the Petes……hope the weather is OK for the drive to Erie tomorrow.

Told everyone they'd look better in this stretch
After the Windsor game its an easy stretch with Oshawa/Saginaw/Niagara/Erie/Kingston/Kingston. Going 6-0 there and we should be getting home ice advantage in the 1st orund
Halfway tyo the 6-0 against these bad teams and even beat windsor. Need to pass Barrie so we dont get Ottawa in round 2

The Colts are 11 pts up with 10 games to go; they are not being caught.
The ‘67s are a better matchup for the Petes than Battalion or Colts imo.

Guys. the kid just signed an NHL contract. Something none of us, have experienced. then he went out and stopped 60 shots. Who cares about the celebration, good for him. Great day for him...he was happy.
Wow real depth of thought shown here. In effect you're saying "I have never personally experienced gun violence so who cares about people making light of shooting guns. And when has a junior hockey player ever done anything wrong before? Let him celebrate, the poor thing."

Agree. I don't want to see the Battalion. Not that I think it would be easy against the 67's (or Colts) but I'm way more confident against them than North Bay. It seems like the Petes can barely get across the blue line when they play North Bay.

Unless the battalion D is beat at the opposition blue line, they almost always have three players behind the puck. The battalion are the least susceptible to the Petes speed imo

We have not played North Bay since the fall. So it is hard to judge how we will play against them with our new players. The team is playing very well now. We play them in a couple of weeks so we will know after that game how we stack up against them.

Very true. I'd still rather avoid them, however.

have to find ways to win those games… Again running into goalies getting hot at the wrong times. Painfully bad giveaway leading to the 4th goal.

Wilson is a big fan of pulling the goalie extremely early to make sure the other team seals it before the last minute of play. I knew the game was over when he called timeout.

Gotta get past the first round. It must be nice to have a losing record post deadline and you look at the first round as a bye for the Petes.
