Perry

Assuming the Leafs, the NHL and powers that be determine he didn't really do anything too bad in Chicago, nothing close to criminal, etc. I would want to see the Leafs take a look at Corey Perry. Precisely because he seems like a clutch and shady guy who could be a weapon for this team on the ice.

100% my thoughts as well.

Seems like an unnecessary distraction off the ice. I'd also imagine the front office wants to save as much capspace as possible for s potential tdl blue line upgrade

If they sign him at minimum which if should be, it shouldn’t have any impact on potential cap space.

Absoeffinglutely. They need players who have won something and Jones being backup for a Cup in LA doesn't count. He will outproduce Holmberg and McMann and has rings to inspire the ringless. At his price point its a no brainer.

Basically all they can afford is Tanev or someone really close to that so there will be nothing coming that moves the needle. For league minimum or not much more, he actually might. Five points in six playoff games last season. What if he has one more run left?

Don’t know what he supposedly did or said but if there is no evidence that he did something terribly wrong, I’d sign him
He has been reinstated by the Commish. Nothing criminal. Rumor is hitting on a Hawks staffer. No pronging just an aging Alpha male getting called out for being a dog. If so I kind of think its up to his wife to forgive him or not for that, not us, and we don't know his home life.

He has to tell Tre and Keefe why he deserves to play for the club, and if they are good with it then I am too. I'm not worried about him being a distraction, the club has 20 Alpha males and I am sure this won't shock any of them them. But can he play? The price is just so appealing and he really seems like someone who can show the young guns what the game used to mean, like Jumbo and Simmer might have if they both werent 3 years past expiry date.

Can't argue that he wouldn't look good in our bottom 6, and he can't be worse than the Reaves experiment. Sounds like he's wanted to play in Toronto before (but the feeling wasn't mutual with a previous GM) which makes me want to believe he would keep in line off the ice.

Perry was pacing for a 45 point season before the plug was pulled on him in Chicago. He scored on a breakaway on the Leafs and looked his usual self back in October when I saw him. Question is if the layoff will have any impact on his play. I suspect not, he just seems like a dirtbag who plays the game with his instincts and his mind more than any athletic attribute. Such a hateable player but just the kind of freak you want to stick out there against a Nick Cousins, Sam Bennett. He cannot go to Florida under any circumstances.

Perry's an asshole. Would you want him to be our asshole or their asshole in any given series?

Florida? Boston? They'll both be sniffing around that asshole too.

I'd almost bring him onto the Leafs to keep him out of Florida's hands. Do I want Perry, Cousins, Tkachuk and Bennett teaming up, or do I want Perry out there to take a chunk out of Cousins, Tkachuk and Bennett?

Perry's an asshole, but someone else has to suffer him for a change.

But wouldn't it be something that the team that does take him beats us and then wins.

That's practically a WWF script destined to come true. 2020 he was a beast in the playoffs, finals run and we went with Thornton, Simmonds and Vesey while letting Perry go to Montreal. 2021, he brains our captain and the Habs go to the finals. Next year, he's a free agent and Toronto rejects him, letting him go to Tampa. Beats us in 2022. Finally get the best of him in 2023 and think it's all over. Nope, if he goes to Florida we will be in a groundhog day rinse and repeat.

I like the IDEA of having Corey perry. I'm conflicted about a REALITY of having Corey perry. Either way, highly doubt he comes back to Canada, doubly so for the leafs. My money is on Florida or LA... maybe Boston, ugh.

Edit- The leafs do have bellows in the minors still w/o a contract at almost 25 games played. If you're going to give up a contract spot, why not him instead of perry?

Well, it's the Leafs so that will probably happen. Don't care. Don't want to win with that guy on the team. Claude Lemieux, Matt Cooke, Corey Perry. All terrible human beings I can't ever imagine cheering for and I don't care how much their teams won.

No, just friggin no.

He was given a huge responsibility in Chicago and paid handsomely to do whatever it was they wanted him to do. Whether that job included mentoring Bedard, whether it included being a shield for him on the ice, or whatever.

He blew it, he blew it so bad that Chicago was allowed to put complete radio silence on the incident or whatever happened.

this team doesn't need Corey Perry

I think he'd be an excellent addition to the Maple Leafs and a guy who has a lot of recent history of deep playoff runs so he knows exactly what is required and it's always good having guys that have been there before.

I also think it's ridiculous to suggest that there might be some "issue" with adding Perry to the team after the John Tavares injury. I think its absurd to suggest that was anything but an accident.

If Perry is intersted in joining that Maple Leafs, I think he'd be a great piece for their bottom six and a player that can play a role on the powerplay too.

Agreed certain players just don't deserve to wear the Leaf and Perry's one of them

Knies - Matthews - Marner
Bert - JT - Nylander
Gregor - Domi - Jarnkrok
McMann - Kampf - Perry

Wouldn't hate it...Probably better than spending assets on a 3LW at the deadline (which seems to be a serious consideration right now).
