Wait a min sunshine! You suggested they were trolling Andy as to a reason why, then myself.

So, now that those inane assertions didn't receive a resounding amount of applause you move the goal posts.

Yager should be signed, no reason at this juncture he shouldn't be.
Isn’t it true that Yager won’t sign because he hates you Ryder? That’s what I heard.

Exactly and they do the opposite, they not only aren't forcing Sully out, they want him to stay.

And keep in mind JR and RH were GM's the majority of Sullivans tenure. Regardless, The players and more to the point the core has a big hand in Sully being here whether you wanna admit it or not!
Well I said as much. Not disagreeing with that.
What I'm saying is it shouldn't have been allowed to happen by the GMs, regardless of what the players said.
Doing what's necessary to win is in the job description. Sometimes feelings get hurt.

I heard we don't have our Russian scout anymore?
That would unfortunately seem to be the case. Alexander Khavonov stopped being listed as a scout back in December, though, so I wasn't noticing that in my latest round-up.
They also seem to have lost Lukas Havlicek (who was based in Prague) sometime before April.

They only have two European scouts right now. That is not an all-time low - back when I started tracking this, Patrik Allvin was the only European scout on staff; they really only started increasing that group under Rutherford. On the other hand, it is lower than they've had for a little while, so hopefully we'll see some more added in that capacity.

19. Pittsburgh Penguins

Net Rating added: 0
Salary added: $2 million

Key Additions: Kevin Hayes, Anthony Beauvillier, Matt Grzelcyk

Key Departures: Reilly Smith, Jeff Carter, Pierre-Olivier Joseph

Technically the Penguins finally improved on Jeff Carter in the bottom six. Technically Kevin Hayes is a sizeable upgrade. Technically.

Perhaps they should’ve aimed higher though as Hayes isn’t a great answer. The downgrade from Reilly Smith to Anthony Beauvillier nullifies whatever advantage is earned on that upgrade.

This probably won’t be a fun season for Sid and friends.

3. Washington Capitals

Net Rating added: +31
Salary added: $16 million

Key Additions: Andrew Mangiapane, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Brandon Duhaime, Matt Roy, Jakob Chychrun, Logan Thompson

Key Departures: Max Pacioretty, Nicolas Aube-Kubel, Beck Malenstyn, Nick Jensen, Darcy Kuemper

The Capitals refuse to go quietly into the night. One of the league’s oldest teams looked destined for the basement as a prime regression candidate, but after a busy summer, Washington has added enough reinforcements to stay in the playoff mix.

The Capitals made the playoffs with a minus-37 goal differential and the odds of them repeating that feat looked slim. They recognized that and bolstered their lineup heavily, adding enough goals to move up the East’s hierarchy considerbly. This group looks average-ish, and that gives them an OK playoff chance going into next year.

Both Andrew Mangiapane and Pierre-Luc Dubois give the Capitals some top-six oomph that’s been missing the last few years. Even more importantly, they made some serious upgrades on the blue line with Matt Roy and Jakob Chychrun, both of whom grade out as top-pair caliber. The duo seriously strengthens the team’s top four and the Chychrun trade in particular was quite a coup with an in-decline Nick Jensen going the other way.

Washington’s lineup isn’t the belle of the ball, but it definitely looks a lot more formidable now.

A net rating added of +0 while adding 2 2nd rounders seems worth it for a rebuilding team, no?

That means they didn't get any worse while they got additional futures with their moves.

Looking at his moves, or lack thereof.
No, if you listened to what he said, his moves (or lack thereof) are very consistent with the long term objective. You might not like it, but yep, very much in keeping with what he should be striving for.

His free agent pickups make no sense. Got older on defense, clogged the forward group basically shutting down any shot of a young player making the team, and also why the hell would he attempt to sign tarasenko if we are trying to get “younger”? He’s kinda all over the place atm.

Dom rated the Penguins as the 3rd most-improved team last offseason.

He's accruing picks and prospects. And the vets he's bringing in are on short term deals and salary dumps. And consequently won't be blocking any of younger upstarts once they're ready to make the jump to the NHL. Since the Jake trade he's acquired three prospects, three 2hd rounders, a 5th and expanded the depth and quality of his player development department. Pretty clear what he's doing.

Caps also need to shed some salary as they are above 10% over the cap. So their lineup is going to lose someone...
