The Pens coach doesn't have a history of playing useless vets, why are you worrying?

Basically what they got by not using cap space to extend Guentzel and subsequently trading him:

- Bunting
- Brunicke
- Koivunen
- Lucius
- Kevin Hayes (extra year at ~3M and change)
- Cody Glass
- 2026 2nd (STL)
- 2025 3rd (STL)
- 2025 3rd (MIN)

It could all be nothing still but certainly looks like the correct move as of right now.

Definitely is. All Guentzel would have done here is maybe get us a first round exit, if others have a good year. It's a complete waste of cap space, given where the team is at.
And I say that as a big Jake fan.

We have Puljujarvi who was 4OV in 2016 as well. Collecting those high draft picks!

It would make a lot of sense to me to not be shy about waiving one or more of Acciari, Glass, Hayes if they don’t play well.

Any team that has the cap space to take a guy like Acciari and/or Eller also have the ability to offer sheet or trade for Robertson.
