You don't understand Nils Hoglander has 20 GOALS at 1.1 MILLION.
And he is signed NEXT YEAR! He has ONE MORE YEAR LEFT!

So Crosby was Brisson's babysitter 19 years ago and Pavel Dorofeyev played for Magnitogorsk growing up. The stories really write themselves. Still hope we don't trade Jake.
As funny as that is...IF...you know the Pittsburgh market well...THAT is who you ask for citing these very specific, nuanced reasons.

The Oilers assets to pull off Guentzel are absolutely hideous

All of their recent 1st rounders suck. Bourgault has 17 points in 51 games in the AHL this year. Schaefer (who was traded last year in the Ekholm deal) has 14 points in 47 games in the AHL this year. Holloway has 4 points in 31 games in the NHL. Broberg turns 23 shortly after the season yet he's still not good enough to cut it in the NHL.
Jake Guentzel for Edmonton’s 2024 first, 2025 first and Leon Draisaitl…works for me

Dreger reporting that the Pens want to have a trade in place for Jake by tomorrow night… so they are close on something it sounds like

There is no alternative. It's the right thing to do. The Pens just better hit on the assets they get, or it's gonna be a loooong rebuild.
Spoiler Alert:

It's going to be a long rebuild whether they 'hit' or not. You don't get game changers in trades like this.

A handful of young players who might turn into every day players down the road would be a great result. Expecting stars is expecting way too much. And the cupboard is so barren that even hitting on some of these trades will only go a small way toward a rebuild.

Most likely yes. There is a slight possibility the Pens hit a home run and get a star quality player with one of these late firsts or prospects they pick up. Were they able to do that it would speed up the rebuild considerably.

Most likely they will not get that type of player though.

Bilbo Phillips goes back in Shire, after he fought with the goblins, battled a troll, riddled with Gollum, A magic ring he stole! He was chased by wolves, Lost in the forest, Escaped in a barrel from the elf-king's halls. Caps re-claimed him for Hershey's playoff run.

Let’s get those predictions in. 1st, Brisson, Cotter and some other random prospect is mine.

Brisson, Cataford and a 2024 1st is what I've been saying for the past few days. I'm curious to see if the Penguins could get even more than that.

I'm already pretty happy with that return, but if they could get even another prospect in addition there, I'd be ecstatic.

Could Vegas afford a Jake/Smith package in terms of cap space? If so I would send both there to try and get a little more out of them

No. They only have $7ish million in LTIR space and the Penguins aren't allowed to retain on Smith if he's going back to Vegas.

Jake would probably sign with Vegas out of the teams mentioned. I do wonder if they could afford his 9+ asking price. But seeing as they’d have a shot at signing him, regardless, I could see them giving the best return.

Yeah. The likelihood any prospect we get even approaches Jake’s level is minuscule. And unless Dubas pulls off some miracle trade or FA signing we’ll basically have no top-tier wingers.

I honestly don’t care what the return is, I’m not excited

I'm prepared to be disappointed in the return. I feel like these big ticket players never get the huge hauls that everyone hopes they will get. The deal always seems to be less than you would hope it would be.
