So Crosby was Brisson's babysitter 19 years ago and Pavel Dorofeyev played for Magnitogorsk growing up. The stories really write themselves. Still hope we don't trade Jake.
Why? This team isn't going anywhere, why the hell keep him?

There is no alternative. It's the right thing to do. The Pens just better hit on the assets they get, or it's gonna be a loooong rebuild.
It'll be shorter if we maximize the return on our trade chips. Jake in particular. That's what the next few days are all about, we gotta make it count.

I mean... people are going to be at least somewhat disappointed because this team has opted to trade a 40 goal scorer before it ever even considered for a second firing it's lame duck coaching staff. So I don't see it as a "lol Penguins fans are such a miserable bunch" thing as much as a "what a dumb f***ing timeline this is" thing.

If Guentzel nets some prospects and then re-signs in the summer that would be great. If we keep the 1st this year we need to spitefully make next years as bad as possible. Give a new coach one chance at magic with Sid and Geno with some talented kids in the lineup, then sell Guentzel again the year after with a contract in place.

I think he will sign back in the summer. His wife is from Pittsburgh and he obviously likes his role.

Would be wild if that happens. Only has happened a couple times.

I'm 100% going to get banned from the main board after the Guentzel trade, once I just rip into the clownshow Canucks fans put on before the trade

We should be adding to even get the privilege of getting Hogslander.

Guentzel + 2nd for Hogs + Michayev (or however it's spelt)

While I'm still praying we can take Vancouver to the cleaners for every piece of gold they don't have nailed down, any thoughts as to Winnipeg or Dallas as dark horse suitors for Jake?

I feel if Jake is traded, he’s gone. I doubt he returns.

We have to be reasonable with expectations here. He’s a pure rental at the time of the trade and will only return rental prices.

Maybe Winnipeg if Jake would waive. I do think Winnipeg prefers trades where the player will sign though as they are one of the least desirable locations to play in the NHL so they try to make more long term plays.

I think Dallas is locked up on LW.

"Big sellers" AND "Jeff Carter."
Honestly I was thinking we could retain on Jeff Carter for 50% and get maybe a 6th round pick?

Is that 6th round pick worth a retention spot for us?

Maybe we'd get a 5th?

I'd at least have something to actually celebrate if Dubas deals him elsewhere.
I was really excited when we signed him looking at what he does / looking at points.

A tad of a disappointment this season. Little surprised how he got 3 years.

re: the NHL Network tweet Andy posted.
- Jake: Good as gone
- Smith: Good as gone
- Carter: sure, if someone wants him and his 9 points while getting decent PP usage. I'd take back anything.
- Eller: I'd like him to stay, depends on the return
- Ned: obviously won't be able to afford him after the season he's had, have to get whatever you can

I know they already told Rust he's staying put, but I've really been hoping one of Rakell/Rust is also dealt.

He’s a useful player being used horribly. He’s not going to do anything with Carter and Harkins. Not even Sid would score there.
