Ideally you could get Van to give up Leki for Guentzel and then trade Smith to Vegas for Edstrom in a Dean for Barbashev type deal.

Don't know if the Knights have the cap for Smith next season though.

Some Penguins fans on twitter are saying no to this and I have no clue why. This would be an insane return for Guentzel.

Yea that’s a no brainer. I don’t know much about Edstrom but reading about him he’d be what? Pens 2nd best prospect? That gives the Pens the best prospect pool they’ve had probably since Geno and Staal graduated. Definitely since the Pouliot, Maatta, Dumoulin era.

Yager, Edstrom, Brisson, Blomqvist, Poulin, Pickering and potentially two more firsts this year.

Ya Vegas seems like the best trade partner for the team in terms of what they are willing to give up

I think the thing that hurts Vegas is that they don't have any stellar stand-out pieces to offer for Guentzel, it's just a lot of good B level pieces. They don't have a prospect to match up with Carolina or Florida, but they have an abundance of good pieces that can make a good total offer for Guentzel.

I think Brisson and the 2024 1st would be a given to include, and I think what makes that appealing is that Vegas' 2024 1st will likely come in closer to 20 than 30. Add on another B asset like Cataford, Sapovaliv, Dorofeyev or Korczak and it's a very strong offer. Not any super high upside pieces, but 3 good pieces.

That's a good deal for Guentzel. Nothing really standout, but 3 really good pieces.

Is this with retention? Maybe they could squeeze another piece out of them with 50% retention so they can make other moves....like Smith

-Guentzel at 50% to Vegas for Brisson, Cataford and a 2024 1st
-Smith to Florida for Sawchyn
-Nedjelkovic and a 4th to Edmonton for a 2024 2nd

Brisson slides into Guentzel's old role as the cerebral sniper on Crosby's wing, and I bet he'll be a consistent 25-30 goal scorer going forward with Crosby. Beyond that, you add a 2024 1st and 2nd along with a 2023 2nd (Sawchyn) and a 2023 3rd (Cataford), both of who seem to be progressing well in their draft+1 years.

Between Yager, Brisson, Cataford and Sawchyn, I think that's probably the strongest forward prospect pool they've had in a while.

Pulling something like this would go a long way towards justifying some renewed faith in Dubas, though again, I think the prospect pool is largely a secondary issue compared to the coaching staff.

I think it would be a mistake to not cash in on Eller and potentially Jarry as well...but Eller for sure. Hell maybe someone needs mr PK Acciari as well.

But yes - the Vegas return is easily - EASILY the best proposed so far. Puts Jake out West, makes some fans upset, gets us a restocked cupboard...checks the boxes.

I'm pretty sure I'm the Pens 9th best prospect and I'm a fat 35 year old who can't skate.

It’s good if Jake isn’t resigning with them. Because then we resign him in the summer ;)

Great, we'll pencil you in for Geno's RW.

Wait are you a righty or a lefty? Ah, who are we kidding, it doesn't matter.

Especially since we'll all just blame Geno anyway, claim he's washed, and that aging happens over the course of weeks and not years.

Somehow he's cooked as of the last 3 months. Probably has nothing to do with trash ass coaches and linemates and a hopeless season.

Anyway - wouldn't you all think Dubas needs to move one of Smith or Guentzel in the next 48 hours? Seems like the same handful of teams are in on both players- with a few more teams in on Guentzel. Can't imagine the dude waits to make ALL of his moves.

Then again this is the same fellow who looked at his roster in Aug/Sep/Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb and thought all was fine. We were one Poolparty away from turning things around.

I'd be all for trading Eller if you could get something decent for him. Washington got a 2nd for him last year when he was having a far worse season than he's having this year.

Trade him and call up Poulin to take his spot, I'd definitely do that if the value was there with trading him.

HF:

"He's a rental, we don't want him we want players with term"
"He's got an extra year, he's worth less now" or "He's got an extra year so you need to pay a 1st to get rid of him".

Depth C's almost always get value ahead of the deadline - and he's played much better than expected by anyone's standards this year. Wouldn't even say the extra year should prohibit anything considering it's only 2.4

I just wouldn't sit on him and expect similar next year for deadline deals. Not only do we need to change things up pretty drastically there's a chance he regresses or gets hurt next year and poof - value gone. Now is the time to cash in on anything not bolted down.

Probably don’t want to “devastate “ a fragile Sid in their eyes by getting rid of two of his Ingres in one offseason lol

Someone needs to sit down with Sid and explain how his buddies Jack Johnson and Mike Sullivan have cost this team more than he knows - and that, perhaps, those that watch him may know what's best at this point.

Just keep being a stud and leave the hockey decisions to someone else. ;)
