Boy the coach for the Blue Jackets must be a well-tenured big name coach with a league-wide reputation to get such results out of a waiver wire player, huh?

Nylander has as many goals for Columbus as harkins has points lol

Thanks Sullivan

Pulling the lineup for this team at random from a box would be more effective than sullivan
A player is a player, but the mystery box can be anything, it could even be the next great generational talent like a Colin White, Matthew Phillips or Jansen Harkins!

I mean in fairness I had seen about as much as I needed to see out of Nylander on this team, too. But it does beg some pretty obvious questions as to how we should be judging players on this roster, yes?

One doesn’t preclude the other…if you can’t focus on two things at the same time, maybe you shouldn’t be a GM lol
He's focused on moving Jake, Smith and Ned just to name a few. Leave him to do his work, this is a very busy week for him.

And
Dubas: we gotta get younger

Anyone with a brain: and Sullivan is going to ruin any young players brought in.
The players we likely bring in are a couple years away, by then Sully MIGHT not be here.

Are we really gonna tout the BJ's as anything but a sideshow organization?

And for the record I liked Nylander, but I mean that trade likely doesn't move the needle much either way.

It is truly embarrassing how we've hitched our wagon to this joke of a coach.

@DesertedPenguin. "But we could hire someone worse"

The only blame should go to the genius parading himself as the President and GM. Who had a history of giving out poor contracts and making bad trades for the Leafs. Who also could let Sullivan go at any time. I can't believe FSG has let him go this long without hiring an actual GM

Nylander could score 9 goals in a game and I still wouldn't want him back

I'm honestly a bit surprised how few trades have happened so far for the deadline. I think the only "deadline" moves so far have been Lindholm, Monahan, Tanev and Lybushkin and it's like 3.5 days away from the deadline. Last year at this time, you had all of Horvat, Tarasenko, ROR, Orlov, Niederreiter, Barbashev, Meier and Jeannot traded.

Parity + overabundance of trade clauses catching up, perhaps.

Man... if there really is real interest in Rust and this team isn't doing everything it can to unload him then I seriously have to wonder how much lower we can yet still go. Because that's some serious stupidity, right there.

He's like 30, injured every year, his contract lasts forever and he's like... top tier third wheel status at best. WTF does this team see in certain people?

Man and Mario got tons of shit for being the head of a "country club." That's amateur hour dog and pony show shit compared to what they have going on these days.
I think Rust would waive his no trade clause if one of the teams was Detroit.

I’m not sure it’s about Nylander. It’s more about how players seem to lose the shackles as soon as they leave here.

I remember a quote I heard regarding Montreal pre Hughes where their development was largely based on pointing out what players do wrong and focusing on that as a technique. I see a lot of that in our head coach and organization. Puustinen has a great preseason but “we need to focus on him playing both ways”, we acquire EK65 and we need to work with him to achieve a complete game.

How about you just do what worked in 2016, Mike and let players dictate their roles with their play instead of this asisine pigeon holing?

Well yeah, this team runs an insanely scripted offense in the offensive zone. That's something that has been noted by numerous players who have left the Penguins.

Sullivan treats the offensive zone too much like it's the NBA with set plays and whatnot.

I think you can argue that the team is good at 5v5 and that's Sullivan's main responsibility, so he shouldn't be fired for the failures of the PP. But with that being said, why the hell does Todd Rierden still have a job then?

It's literally "we tried nothing and we're out of ideas".

At the end of the day, the buck stops at the desk of the Head Coach. He may have delegated the responsibility of managing the power play to Rierden, but when it became obvious that things weren't going well, and they weren't getting better, it was on Sullivan to do something about it.

In the end, it's kind of reflective of the general team's problems - being comfortable with the status quo, even if it means sliding further down the standings.

I wouldn't bet 2 cents on that. The simple fact that we are nearing the TDL on Friday and we've seen nothing to this point tells me that they were hoping to stay status quo, now they are thinking what minor move they can make to keep the peasants happy.

Absolutely not. It's gonna be tremendous. Looking forward to the next few days.

It wasn't a proper attempt with him.
Sullivan is only willing to give guys that if they're defensive plugs.
He doesn't respect the offensive side of the game enough. He doesn't acknowledge the need for scoring enough.
That's a major reason why this team is trash offensively now.

Just pointing this out:
  • Tippett: 13 goals and 32 points in 87 games between 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 with the Panthers
  • Hoglander: 22 goals and 36 points in 86 games between 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 with the Canucks
Is this a "Tippett broke out with the Flyers, so we should expect Hoglander to do the same" comment? No, I meant this as in "they shouldn't value Hoglander super high because what he's doing isn't even that impressive".

I just hope they stay away from the Canucks with a Guentzel trade. The more I see, the more I think they'd be buying insanely high on Hoglander, who I don't view as better than a 2nd line potential guy.
