I mean if you're Evgeni Malkin, I guess.

I dunno. Everything I've seen from FSG so far has simply said to me "lol you guys are new at this, huh?"
I kinda figured the reports had some truth of FSG being mainly interested in the real estate stuff around the arena and in downtown Pittsburgh as opposed to wanting to buy the Pens specifically. I mean, why the f*** else would anybody pay a billion to land a team on the steep downturn and in the extreme twilight of its core's era, with attendance already dwindling and playoff failure three consecutive seasons deep at that point?

Now I'm convinced those reports were true. FSG couldn't give a f*** less about the team operation until things play themselves out and the work begins on the rebuild. -edit- Even then, I'm skeptical. They probably just sell off once they've got their zoning and building permits secured and ground breaks on their projects. They paid a billion for development opportunities, the team that came along with it was coincidental. Ah well. It's not like the previous owners of pedo-adjacent billionaire and rape apologist were any better.

Look the Boston hedge fund guys think they are smart and have capital to deploy. But man extending Sullivan as if he was not replaceable was stupid as hell. I have a couple issues with Hextall with Carter and Kap signings. But look Petry may still be the RD we hope he will be. He is on the 3 year plan like everyone else. POJ at least has been a decent LD while the brass only kept him for not losing him to waivers. Hextall next move will be either good or bad. If it fails he is gone. Boston brings back their stars on one year deals take it or leave it. Pens go 4 to 6 years. Now I have no issue with Rakell or Geno AAV 6 for 4. Rust I guess at 5 AAV was Ok by most accounts. Letang was a need and Pens not only 6 years at AAV, but are banking on the players staying good for that period. Not likely.

Ain't no way in Hell Geno or Letang play out their full deals--none, imo. I'm not even sure Rust does, particularly with this team.

I dunno. Obviously Malkin's history suggests that even a mild crosswind could put him out of the lineup for like three months. But I guess I wouldn't be completely surprised to see him play out his contract. Letang yeah... no.

I just think at some point the dude's gonna get sick of doing all the work for a losing team with the amount of money he's made and career accolades he's had. He's got a supermodel wife and young kid at home and this team's donezo. Three years? Maybe. That fourth? Good luck.

Malkin is the type I could see staying in the NHL just to be here longer than Sid as a point of pride.

Really disagree with the assessment. Dude has the Forsberg vibe of “you’re going to have to pull me off the ice”..

I think both Malkin and Letang will be LTIRetired and traded to a team trying to reach the floor.........or kept so the Pens can reach the floor.

Oh yeah I keep forgetting he got that extra year.

I dunno. I think his legacy and being a one-team player is pretty important to him so I don't see any trade demands. That woulda been like... years ago were it happening. But might retire early, for sure. Injuries of course will likely determine that.

EDIT: Gurgs is right, though. Malkin is too stubborn to quit. This guy has literally skated in playoff games and produced on a shredded knee.

I think this team's gonna be bad enough to be one of those "we'll take your bad contracts while tanking" teams at the end of the Letang, maybe even Geno deals.

Really don't see Geno playing that fourth year. Due to more injury piling up or just not wanting to play for a dogshit team (agree with the idea that he's got too much heart for his own good sometimes).

They're not gonna get shipped out, imo.

A 40 year old Evgeni Malkin, trying to dangle 4 defenders because his winger is Tristan "Give me Toby Petersen instead" Broz, and ultimately getting hit so hard he immediately explodes into light balls like Mega Man.

Yeah, I could see that.

A new coach could absolutely still get us into the playoffs this year, and some luck with a trade or two could help us win a round, and then you just hope for good matchups and injuries.

I hated the Rust deal, because you just signed Kessel Jr. for like 20 years when he's 30, but he can still be useful if you put him in the right situation. We are just overusing struggling players and putting them in a position to fail, and we're underusing guys who are playing great hockey. You could probably have just let Rust walk and signed old as dirt Kessel and got the same results for a lot less cash, at least then the coach would be realistic about the deployments.

Even the media guys can see it, and are willing to talk about it. And some of them have no F'ing idea what they're watching.

Contracts front loaded with NMC suggest they wanted to keep the geezers here for Sid in his 3 year lightening in a bottle tour. I agree it was lazy and Hextall is limited in what the beaners want and what is best for the franchise. But signing Carter and then Kap may not fireable moves but one more stupid move and he has to go.

My favorite part of the Petry trade is people are finally seeing that other top pairing D are just as defensively liable as Letang.
My favorite part is the trading of a one-dimensional, defensively inept blueliner on a bloated contract for another one-dimensional, defensively inept blueliner on a bloated contract, but older.

I, uh... I don't think that's a nickname for somebody from Boston, bud.

Don't take this as an admonishment because it isn't but it sure seems there are a lot of guys with fancy important titles in and around this organization who don't actually have jobs or responsibilities and just kinda float around collecting fat paychecks and pointing to other people when shit hits the fan saying "Not my job!"

I feel like we could easily exploit Toronto or Ottawa to get rid of Dumouli right now.
I have no problem moving on from Dumoulin.

I would be stunned if he is traded. I think it is more likely they keep him through the regular season and then decide not to bring him back.

I think it is more likely they trade POJ so they can recall Smith than it is that they trade Dumoulin.

It would be hilarious if they traded POJ directly after he proved to be an asset to the team while desperately clinging to the burned out husk of Dumo because of feels. Then a bunch of you would probably tell me that's actually smart, somehow.

I think they'll probably run some combination of Dumo, Petts and POJ as their LD this season and decide what to do in the off-season. Reevaluate where Smith is and decide whether to bring back Dumo to fill the 3LD spot or let him walk and give Smith the spot coming into camp/pre-season.

I mean Petts - Petry was great.
Yeah, and it was because of the guy promoted to Letang's pairing to try and undo his sudden drop into Melichar levels of hockey. Not Petry.
