We really don't know what new ownership really wants as I can only go on what Hextall has done. He kept old guys here and Sully got three additional years. Pens are keeping the status quo with adding players that they think fit the roster. There is no rebuild or retool coming for three years even if they miss the playoffs, They are convinced this roster can compete for a cup with some puck luck. When the rebuild comes and actually forced on this ownership, my guess is they sell and run.

Couple of options to kick around:

Kapanen to Anaheim for Max Jones
Kapanen+Jarry+1st+Hallander to Anaheim for Comtois+Gibson
Kapanen to Arizona for Bjugstad (he's at 900k, bury him)
Kapanen to New Jersey for Andreas Johnsson (crap for crap)
Kapanen+POJ to Nashville for Trenin+SJS 3rd

Smith getting outscored by Pouliot in the AHL...

How does he look for people who watch him play?

I like that we're getting the annual "force a player to play through injury and totally shatter the dregs of their confidence" done early this year. That's some forward thinking!

Crosby's line has produced just as much as Malkin's line since they swapped Rakell and Rust.

It just seems like such a minor thing to get mad about. Both top-6 lines are scoring a ton and dominating analytically.

Except L1 has had a hand major in conceding goals in addition to scoring them.
Giveth and taketh away.

GCR is hailed (and given the TOI) that they are this juggernaut.

It's not about the offense for either line, it's how they defend and right now L1 looks like garbage defensively

I'm pretty confident that Hextall is not moving our 1st round pick and I'm ok with that
This team can still really go either way right now, I wouldn't gamble personally

Sounds like he's advocating Formenton for Dumoulin or Carter.

It wouldn't be the worst trade in the world. He's a young guy, good size, and scored a bit last year. Could be a great replacement for Heinen or Zucker next year or could simply boost the overall bottom 6. The contract may be a sticker though...seems like he's holding out. The lack of even a 1yr bridge is odd to me too.

I don't hate Dumoulin's game if he's on the bottom pairing and in some protected minutes. That gives us the Lovejoy-esque depth from 2016 having him there so I'm not sold on selling him just yet. Carter, no until we see how Bleuger does. That said, we need to maybe see Smith for a couple of games as well.

That said, the issue isn't necessarily needing a guy like him in the middle-6. He's not beating out any of Jake, Rust, Rakell, or Zucker and McGinn and Heinen are doing well with Carter. Our biggest issue right now isn't the bottom 6 necessarily, it's L1 being in shambles and poor goaltending...in addition to defensive lapses so...not an outrageous suggestion but

You can't really think an ownership group will buy a team near the height of there total worth then sell it 5 years from now at a lower price point?

Surely.

Holy shit, if we could get out from that Carter contract, or get value from a broken ass Dumo, you do it.

Pretty fair honestly. My thought there was getting Gibson in to take us to the end of the Sid/Geno/Letang era. I think he would give us a better shot than Jarry.

I don't disagree but my hesitation is dealing from a potential positon of weakness and getting back a player at a position of strength.

I doubt it would be a 1:1 either. I assume it would look like Carter+ or Dumo+, so it depends on what the plus is. I imagine they would want a younger asset to offset, such as POJ or Hallander. Maybe Dumo+Hallander for Formenton or Dumo+POJ for Formenton+____

"There's so many little things and if one goes wrong, it could be the difference between wins and losses," Crosby said. "It's almost like playing in playoff games early in the season. It's that close.
Yes, Sid, it's almost like playoffs indeed - the Penguins lose in an embarrassing fashion. And Jarry is his playoff form too.

It’s not the proposal that’s the issue. It’s that Carter has a NMC and Dumo an eight no trade list. Wanna bet Ottawais on it like most Canadian teams. Neither player wants to go there…not a realistic proposal

Formenton is likely not signed because he was involved in a gang rape. Not really sure that's a good idea given the current climate of the NHL.
I think he’s not signed because he’s asking way above what he’s worth
