Does the search function on these forums actually work? I've tried a few times recently but it keeps telling me there is a server error.
Seems to be working for me

I think there's another team out there with a crap for crap trade we can do. The problem is, we have so little flexibility in the cap. If we could take on 500-$1mil, it would change the game.

You could do a Joel Armia, Gurianov, or a retained Hoffman, Drouin, or Dadanov. But as is, it's tough to find another $3mil guy with a 2yr deal that makes sense to swap.

Couple options may be - Anthansiou or Domi from Chicago at the TDL. Pay Kapanen + 2nd for either. Dickenson if he doesn't work out and they want something new.

Other note - I always bark at people who shit all over roster decisions who never offer an alternative path. "Hextall needed to sign a top 6 wing in the offseason!" "Who?" "*silence* Any top 6 wing! Any!" "Who, specifically?" "*more silence*" Two guys that come to mind from this past off season and the one before that - Pius Suter and Dominik Kubalik. They are doing very well in Detroit. Kubalik has 16pt in 14GP this year. This off-season, I posted Kapanen for Kubalik more times that I could care to count. When they didn't sign him, I pushed us to in nearly every roster construction post I make. Instead...we got Kapanen for 2yrs at a restrictive price...and he's in the press box. This is why, until he proves otherwise, I don't believe Hextall is the kind of guy that can get us out of this. At least, not the way JR was able to a few times. I don't think Hextall has the Scuderi-Daley, Perron-Hagelin gene in him.

No chance

I'd take Brandon Sutter over Carter any day of the week.

I'd also take a 2014 Blake Comeau and Pascal Dupuis over any single winger in our bottom 6 currently. Heinen is more or less on those guys level but not by much.

Then you have Steve Downie. Dunno about you but im taking him over Archibald

Spaling, Goc, and Lapierre sucked though, I'll give you that.
I would gladly take a $1mil Comeau but IIRC, Duper was at $3.25mil or so at that time, so that would be a hard no. Also very much not taking Downie over anyone here. He was the kind of agitator that got the ire of the refs and cost the team more in the long run than his short term jabs. The others, whatever.

What we are missing is what the infusion of Sheary and Rust did for us in 16 and Jake in 17. We also aren't getting the new coach smell to perk everyone up. And no Scuds-Daley, Perron-Hagsy trades are on the table at the moment (even though the pieces may be there with Dumo and Kapanen).

Watching Carolina last night really gave me the impression that the team neeeeds to replace Dumo with a younger top 4 dman. Their defense is so much crisper and makes life easier on their forwards who are super aggressive. Chychrun is likely a pipe dream and a big question mark with health m, but a player even remotely like him would be a big help.

I think my ideal scenario here is this:

Get Smith up here to prove he can be a 4/5/6.

Trade Dumoulin+Kapanen out for a bottom 6 dman, a bottom 6 forward (or tweener), and hopefully some cap space. I would even add a bit to incentivize it. Selling point would hopefully be the other team flipping Dumo for a 2nd+ at the TDL.

Example:
Dumoulin+Kapanen+Legare/3rd to Seattle for Soucy+Donato

Jake-Sid-Rakell (perfect world)
Zucker-Malkin-Rust
Heinen-Carter-McGinn
Donato-Bleuger-Arch/Poul/etc

Pettersson-Letang
Soucy-Petry
Smith/POJ-Ruuta

It's not like Dumo is some elder compared to Carolina's top four. They are 28 and he is 31.

i think i would be a seller at the trade deadline even if we were in the playoffs.

Conor Sheary still a significantly more impactful player than Kapanen. It’s sad folks.

I'll get on my soap box again and scream for years that the Penguins should have never let Sheary go. Especially after re-acquiring him in 2020.

He's one of Washington's main PKers now and he's doing decently well at it. Getting 30-40 points in a 3rd line role with PKing is what this team wishes Kapanen would bring. It's not the end of the world since the Penguins do still have Heinen, but Sheary would fit really well on the Penguins 3rd line.

Lot easier to succeed at Sheary’s size when you are playing in that top 9 tbh

Feel like Sullivan is just sweating to drop Rakell back to L3.
It's bewildering. Rakell's not piling on the points but he's been pretty much the singular bright spot at forward consistently through a dozen games. He's looked good with Geno's line, he's looked great and changed the entire dynamic of Sid-Jake, he's not just some floater but he actually works away from the puck.

Just weird stuff. Can't even be bothered to really get in a twist about it anymore. It's just Sully doing Sully things for the f*** of it. Oh well.
