Petry + Rutta + Smith + Poehling + 3rd > Matheson + Marino + 4th

You can look at everything in a vacuum and nitpick how they got there if you want, but it's a better roster with those moves.

The current issues are not any of these guys involved anyway. The issue is Dumo being washed and Letang playing some of the worst hockey of his career (which may or may not have something to do with how terrible Dumo is right now).

Poehling has been a pleasant surprise better than expected but we could have signed someone at league minimum or have given DOC or Zahorna a chance. I Truly believe Zahorna is a NHL player.

3rd and 4th imo is a wash.

So we are now looking at Petry + Rutta + Smith versus Marino + Matheson.

I was a Petry fan when he was in Montreal and Rutta has been great.
I just think that Matheson showed us a lot of growth last year and felt he was made for Sullivans system and felt he was going to even be better with us.

Marino is in a top 20 D pair currently statistical wise in the NHL.

It's tough value wise I think Smith tilts the winnings. I guess I am more upset we traded both of them and were unable to get rid of one of the.

I just think we got this year's D weaker. I will hols off for another 15 games before I make more comments. I expect more from Petry recently. Though his advanced stats look good.

DOC seems to be turning into one of those players who can get it done in the AHL but not the big league
All the crap aside.

I'm exciting to see Hallander play. Even though it seems like he has been around forever. Hallander is only like 7 months older than Poulin.

I think he has 3rd line upside. It isn't to say much but considering what we pay our third liners, it might be nice to have a cheap one.
I saw he has like 9 points in 10 games in the AHL? Would be great if he turned into something. Especially if he can play D.

But I do have an appreciation for my Defensive forwards. Please return soon TB.

I'm no Blueger super fan, but it would've been nice to run with like a Blueger and Poehling 3C and 4C respectively.

Exactly how I feel...Poehling is capable of handling 3C duties. And wing is less taxing on a guy like Carter.

Jake-Sid-Rak
Zucker-Geno-Rust
Heinen-Poehling-Carter
XX-Blu-XX

Maneuver Kap/Carter/Heinen up and down the lineup as necessary. That's a balanced group in terms of offensive potential and defensive responsibility.

Ok for a moment of levity among the troops? Lol…what’s wrong with this team‘s PP is encapsulated in Sid dressing up as Ted Lasso and Geno as Phoebe Bridgers…

Also, I thought I was negative and then I read Zeise…the apocalypse is nigh…

Life has to be rough for Sid. He must have a tailor on hand for his pants. Can't just walk into a store and grab some slacks like an average joe.

You didn't finish this sentence.

Matheson is fine, but Petry is just better. Bigger and more physical which the Pens defense desperately needed. Better and longer history of producing. Capable of playing more and tougher minutes. Marino and Petts are a lot more similar than they are different, so I'd call that a wash. In total, the 2nd pairing is improved.

Rutta is significantly better than Ruhwedel. POJ is probably even exceeding what Petts was doing last year, at bare minimum it's a wash. So the 3rd pairing is also improved, arguably substantially so.

They added in Smith and were able to keep Ruhwedel and Friedman in the organization as well, so the depth is improved, too.

If the defense is weaker this year, again, it's because of Dumo and Letang. Keeping Matheson and/or Marino wouldn't have fixed that.

The fact that Sid doesn't look like a weeble-wobble in a suit is a glowing testament to his tailor's skills.
Gotta give the man his credit. He hasn't ever skipped a leg day. Could you imagine if Geno worked out like Sid and had tree trunk legs on his frame?

Lawd he'd have been even more of a tank.

I would rather have more interesting players to talk about.

Lol
I'd rather talk about guys who probably are nothing like Zoho than talk about overpriced nothings like McGinn.

Give me a dirt cheap 4th line that isn't anything special every day of the week over trying in vain to throw together some meaningful 4th line by throwing bloated contracts at the McGinns and Tanevs of the world.

Pens maybe done by the end of November if the next 8 games they go 2-6 which to me is probable. Being 10 points behind the last playoff team if that is the case is just hard to make up. Yes Pens can make up that if they face up to the fact Dumo and Kap have to go and need some guys with size and grit to bang some people to give the old guys some breathing room here.

Three moves to make that at least re-balances the roster into what Hextall promised to do when he came here. F Sully. Teddy B for physical LD. I like Dillion to fill that role. Dumo and a high pick to Arizona for Kassian . Clears 1millon cap space so the above trades are a wash cap wise. Kap to anyone for whatever is workable. Someone may still think he is good. Get back prospect and or pick and get needed cap space for this year. Or maybe the Ducks like him as part of their rebuild. Or Kap and TB to the Jets for Dillon and Appleton, and a nice prospect as needed. Dumo with the pick to Arizona to clear cap space.

You want to let go of a solid UFA to be like Dumoulin and bring back a guy like Kassian that still has a year left on his deal. No f***ing thank you. That's the problem with this team, we need to stop going after these guys.

Look at Montreal and the return they got for Chariot last year, Dumoulin is 12x the player! Easily brings back a 1st +

Pass on Kassian. I did want him before but watching him more often he is kind of a dumbass. Rather go after a retained Mikheyev anyway.

If Pens are out of the playoff picture with little hope we should shop Dumo for a 1st, Zucker for whatever we can get, Carter if a playoff team wants his leadsership.

Gonna be some real bummed folks, myself included, when Hextall announces he's re-signed Dumo to a 3-year extension this spring/summer--whenever the Pens are eliminated.

That’s why he needs to get fired before he re-signs Dumo and Jarry to eight year deals.
