Lol not with that contract. Dude’s going to show up at training camp even if he’s clinically dead.
How do 35+ deals work again? Wouldn't the Pens still be on the hook for salary but not cap hit? I forget.

-edit- Apparently they wouldn't be on the hook for his cap hit unless he has signing bonuses, which I'm sure the ol' Flyers alumni was given, in addition to some sort of restrictive movement clause.

No signing bonus, but of course a NMC. Cuz you gotta go that extra mile for your 38 year old buddy who is already half wrapped in mummifying gauze.

Hoo boy, was there ever pushback when it was suggested that it *might* not have been the wisest move ever made to re-sign a guy who struggled mightily for parts of the prior season and was on the cusp of 38 already.

I think a good percentage of this board didn’t like the contract especially when it was signed but also some comments about if he was a 15 goal 35 pt guy then the value was fine.

I hated the deal personally.

O'Connor was sent down yesterday.

The roster can’t ice Hallander or Poulin if Teddy is healthy.

Yeah, but I mean, if people always view stuff in black and white and without any nuance (to borrow your whole thing recently) you can make a case for a lot of stuff. Stats suggested McCann was just a coaching opportunity away from being one of the game's elite production guys going by points per 60. They suggested ZAR's defensive play should have him in the conversation for the Selke. Etc, etc.

But Carter looked gassed and big shitty for a good portion of last season and at 37+, that wasn't something that was about to get any better. Especially considering Sully's usage of the guy.

I'm no Blueger super fan, but it would've been nice to run with like a Blueger and Poehling 3C and 4C respectively.

Unfortunately it sounds like Blueger isn’t ready and I think was hoping wonky groin or core muscle , like Zucker and Sid, could heal without surgery and he could play…not looking very good if he’s still out…

Pens were 5-6-4 thru 15 games to start last season before going on a 22-4-1 run. I'm willing to give them a little more time to figure things out.

What the hell is up with Blueger?

True, but it's hard to count on another 22-4-1 run.

Yes I agree but I'll give them a little more rope.

Sure: Jarry could turn a bad month into a good one. The top 6 could remember what a power play is all about. Petry could shake the James Neal vibes about taking penalties for the sake of taking penalties. Dumo could anchor a 3rd pair......however-

You're just not going to sustain runs like that anymore without depth scoring. Zero signs to show that changing.

OK well just pretend it's me, then haha. Because I think that line is smoke and mirrors and hasn't actually worked on anything but paper pretty much forever. To me... "Expected Goals" translates to "We suck at finishing the play."

I know people have decided that after like five good games ZMR is good to go. But I remain pretty unconvinced. Though it does seem pretty obvious that Malkin and Rust at least should be playing together so Raks can be on Crosby's RW where he can actually do work.
Has that combination worked better or worse than other combinations tried this year?

well...FSG is exploring Liverpool sale, they will cash in healthy profit in billions, enough to pay every aging star plus a new coach here...

It's kind of laughable how every "prospect" we call up basically is best suited as a 4th line plug.
Well O'Connor was playing 3rd line C.

I agree that our young guys have way too short a leash. At least POJ seems to be getting a fair shake. Even gets PP time.

I do notice that they are pushing him towards the lower risk side. In the O-zone, I have seen him have opportunities for him to either make a move, or create space for a shot. Instead he usually safely puts it into a corner, or over defers to passing it to his D partner. He needs to be allowed to take a chance, and screw up once in awhile to show some of his offensive skills.

Thing is, that's out of necessity because he's on a 1-way now. Sullivan doesn't create a competitive environment in our locker room where the hungriest guy gets the spot. He caters to seniority and favoritism. DOC made that one bad play on defense and he's pretty much done for the season with the big club.

All the crap aside.

I'm exciting to see Hallander play. Even though it seems like he has been around forever. Hallander is only like 7 months older than Poulin.

I think he has 3rd line upside. It isn't to say much but considering what we pay our third liners, it might be nice to have a cheap one.
